When TataSky is adding more HD channels

I have the annual pack hd and was told all new channels are free, then why is there an extra fee for the new premiere channel?
Have told tata sky that will disconnect my connection once the annual plan is over. Liars.

This subject has been discussed many times here in the same thread since the launch date of SWP.

They have categorised SWP into their "special" so mega pack users can not enjoy this channel without paying additional. I hv also subscribed mega pack but I am not getting this channel.

I got SWP added for free by talking to CC. They gave it to me because I was megapack subscriber since Dec-2012. The CC person told me that I will get this channel free till end of Dec, i.e., the time when my megapack subscription ends.

I told the person in a very calm but firm tone:

- TS is responding to underhand methods by classifying some channels as specials and charging hefty fees.
- Told her that future channels also may be classified as such and there is no guarantee
- Was told that Megapack means all channels and new channel introduction is automatic for customers like me; now megapack does not make sense.
- Told her that Rs. 60/pm or Rs. 500/pa is quite a lot of money for just one channel and as it is TS is most expensive with least no. of HD channels
- Finally said that, I will have to rethink on whether to stay with TS in future

She said that my feedback will be conveyed back to the superiors.

I also got this channel added a few days back after I tried to unsubscribe from tata sky.
The cancellation department had called. They said they will provide the channel till my biennial subscription ends. So will hold on for now. Need to seriously think after the existing subscriptions ends. But I don't see many options available. The Indian customer will be continuously taken for a ride.

Well after seeing this kind of attitude from tata sky first when they started the HD access free and further the SWP channel I was getting fed up with them. As I stay in a flat and none of my balconies have access to the south west direction so I cannot change the DTH provider at will. So when they dropped the neo sports channels I hunted for another alternative. I could go for Airtel IPTV (had this connection for 4 years but not satisfied with it being the primary connection as no HD - recently they have introduced HD ). I visited the local cable operator and found that he was relaying 8 HD channels (den). I then invested in the HD box. I got 8 channels which increased to 17 in a couple of days. So I am now paying 300 per month with around all the sports channels and 17 HD channels. The total channels are more than 200 plus. I think it is now time to dump ts (still having the connection which will expire in the next month). They have got into the habit of changing goalposts in course of the game.

Hi I have DEN SD (family) package on my two TVs in DELHI.
DEN has been bombarding us with their advertisement for HD STB. I wanted to know if its worth upgrading? I would be thankful if you could let me know how is the PQ and sound in the HD channels? What was the cost of the STB you paid. I am paying about 300 for no HD, does that mean there is no increase in cost if I take HD?

Thaks to this post, I now called up TSky and asked for SWP. Initial response was a rude 'not possible' :annoyed: but when asked if the post Feb-13 rule is true or not, he had to accept.

Got it activated in 2 mins - I had subscribed on Feb-13. :lol:

Just had a chat with ts. They are differentiating between before feb-13 subscribers and later subscribers. Those Pre feb-13 will get SWP free on 'request'.
I asked what is the difference between these two type of subscribers and I did not get any reply?
Ts will take a beating on this unfair business practice. The first HD channel that they provide after so many years they put into a newly and artificially made category which is a breach of contract and trust.

I too have been one of the early adopters of the TSky HDPVR + Megapack and have had it right from the start without any major issues. Had opted for this as found the PQ/SQ to be good at that time (~3yrs back).

Guess now that having spent about 10k initially for the PVR+Mega pack and having renewed a few times the mega pack, its now time to make use of the showcase options and log out of TSky once the subscription ends.

Good for you. But the thing is ts is not honoring its commitment and even if they are giving SWP to pre-feb 13 customers on 'request' these customers will get a benefit for 4 months max. It will not excuse the cheating of ts to those subscribers who bought mega HD pack between Feb and Oct.
And what about customers like me who have been buying these mega packs for last several years without a break? We get nothing as our renewal date fall in the mar - Oct period?

I paid for the HD setup box which was priced at 4800/-. (no recorder just HD settop box) The picture quality and the sound quality is good in a majority of channels. And the best part is you pay only 300 pm and get all the sports channels including ten and neo.

I think they have a scheme for swapping of normal boxes for hd boxes at the moment.

I would also add that most of us when we did become the customers of TS , we also believed in the brand "tata" which as we all would agree as taken a dent , at least me , having worked for Tata Steel for almost 17 years !
Lets hope that TS does some introspection and not be penny wise and pond foolish !!

I am in steel trading business and so I can comment something on Tata's tactics.
These Indian business houses are Nationalist and patriotic only for their own business interests. They will demand protectionist policies for the products they manufacture but demand zero import duties on their raw materials. They will rise against FDI if they are not able to secure fdi for themselves. They will tie up with foreign companies for themselves but otherwise would raise the bogey of nationalism. In steel sector Tata Steel is in the forefront for employing various tactics so that imported steel does not enter into India.

After having been the customer of companies like Airtel & TataPhoton; I can say that these Indian companies make billions, yet do nothing to improve their customer services.

As TS is already tied up with Movies Now why they resorted to upscale (I think) I don't understand.
This is the one HD channel I am looking at TS for a long time. But now got with a little disappointment.
As TS So far have all True HD channels, I wish my doubt should be proved incorrect in case of this most popular English Movies Channel.

Yup Looks upscaled to me too. However like u , waiting for other subscribers to confirm this. However one thing on this- how is the audio true 5.1 ? Are they applying some kind of pro logic II ? The SD channel comes in stereo only if i am not wrong.

A simple test is Die Another Day is 2.35 : 1 aspect ratio, but is broadcast in 16:9 so yes cropping is happening ..... I will still wait and see how the next movie looks ......... Zee cinema HD on the other hand looks fantastic, true HD I must say.

I think u r partly misinformed about aspect ratios on movie channels. U r right about movie now being better than SD and not looking true HD. But regarding cropping, please note that both Star movies HD and Movies now HD are cropping all 2.35:1 AR movies to 16:9. So that is not a criteria to judge this.

I am misinformed about aspect ratio .....lol .. never mind.

Anyhow if Star Movies HD is also broadcasting all 2.35:1 to 16:9 then cropping is also happening on that channel as well, and if cropping is happening the movie would loose some quality, even though its some inherent loss you might not see
