When TataSky is adding more HD channels

Thanks htfan17 for the list. Regarding settings on AVR, my tatasky box is hooked to AVR via HDMI only. I will check the settings in the evening, but what those should be ideally? Even TSky box has some settings for audio output?

Go to Organizer ?setting user setting >> there is option to select the Audio setting

I recently had an issue with tata sky with none of the channels showing up. Called the CC and was told that this is a technical problem and it is a problem with...wait for it.."THE SOLAR SYSTEM" and she was not ready to send any technician home to check it. I waited for 12 more hours to ensure that this lady would be off her shift (just in case I run into her again) and called again and this time the guy took my request and sent a technician the next day.

Thanks man... What do I set here, when I set it as HDMI output as PCM receiver does not recognize those as surround but processes as stereo.

Thanks dillihifi...
If we set that to DolbyDigital, i am wondering the purpose of PCM mode.

Also I tried setting it to DD sound from star movies hd was great but sony pix hd was bad...

Not sure whats going on....

Great to know that u r getting DD now.

PCM is worst setting and makes everything fake 5.1 and ur AVR will show PCM then- never do that. From what i observed, the only benefit of PCM mode is volume control by the STB. From my R&D long back, i observed that when digitally connected via HDMI>AVR or Optical>AVR etc. the HD channels volume cannot be controlled via STB, while SD channel continues to be controllable. When i set the same to PCM, HD Volume can be controlled by STB as well. very weird benefit i know but beneficial only to ppl not having AVR or having some pseudo device for digitally connected.

PIX is bad in the sense how bad? Like I said in my post earlier, Star networks have true 5.1 but Sony network has Fake 5.1. Still, u shd get decent front stereo sound and decent bass (surround and center wont be correctly generated). I am yet to find weekend time to compare PIX HD audio with other fake sound channels myself- as the channel recently started on Tsky.

Humm... I think I am confused little bit. I was thinking that purpose of STB PCM out is to use decoding\processing capabilities of the AVR that is connected (via HDMI of course) is that not right?

When we set STB audio mode to DD - who is actually decoding the audio (STB or AVR?)

for PIX - bad means quite bad actually, it lacked detail and punch and was very feeble, only stereo mode was listenable in AVR.

Need to sit over the weekend and play around with these settings, as I feel current setup is far from best :o

Cheers

Dont worry about PCM as its intepretation varies per source and usage by different devices. Now that you know DD is the only right option, just concentrate on tweaking the same for improving.

Rest assured, AVR is decoding the DD not STB. We just instruct STB to send true Dolby stream (bitstream) to AVR and not the alternate options thats all.

You are right. Sony network audio sounds always better in Stereo mode and that is mainly because when source signal is fake 5.1, the bass is spread out in all channels and there is no dedicated signal for bass. In stereo mode, AVR or any speaker system for that matter picks up the included bass way better than it does in 5.1 mode. Basically what i mean is that the subwoofer bass crossover is not effective in 5.1 mode.

Unfortunately there is no universal solution. Keep tweaking until u find that middle ground but its difficult to balance true dolby and fake dolby outputs using the same setting. I personally just concentrate on true signal channels and simply tolerate the pathetic audio of fake ones somewhat compensated by their HD picture quality.

Some more SD/HD channels added:

All 7 channels added on Tatasky,
Big Magic on Lcn 138,
Max 2 on Lcn 324,
Star Sports HD3 on 408,
Star Sports HD4 on 410,
V6 Telugu on 767,
Surya Music on 882,
Chardikla Time TV on 962

Tatasky Introduced 4K HD STB

Any idea about the number of 4K Channels? They are advertising only about watching cricket in 4K now.

Hope it is not just upscaling by the STB

To change to 4K, one will have to pay Rs. 5900 for new STB. At the moment there will be only one channel. I don't think that it will be upscaled content for world cup but can't say for afterwards.

It's quite strange, but yesterday I noticed that there was a loss of Dolby Digital audio signal in Sony HD channel while watching the Filmfare awards. Each time the audio was suddenly missing I had to change channels to bring back the audio. Has any one else faced such an issue or maybe my tata sky hd box has an issue.

Other HD channels seamed fine and there was no problem with Audio.

Sunday was watching black hawk down on hd channel. There was drop in audio on avr every 30-40 seconds. But audio came back after a pause. No need to change channels. I think there is some issue with Tatasky reception especially hd channels. Is there same issue for dish TV or videocon stbs?
