Where to buy Shure V15 / M44-7 in Singapore

Hi Denzong. Thank you very much.

Actually, my cousin lives in Singapore and visits India frequently. I was initially reluctant to ask him to buy me a cartridge from there. After he came to know that I bought some cables from a US based member in another online forum 'Audiocircle' through another cousin in US recently, he has himself offered to help me to source anything from Singapore and agreed to bring me the cart.

Hope you can provide me where to buy Shure M44-7 from there. I'll pass on the info and he would buy it for me and bring it in person on his next visit to India.

Cheers

Rajesh

Singapore 208787,
Tel : 62921183, 62926183, 62941692.

Hope this helps.

You can mail them too and you shall surely get a reply. I had contacted and got reply too. Google and u shall see their website which may have your requirements as the site gives all info

M44-7 or Mx97E are available right here in India. Call Neeraj in Delhi +919811089557 and he should be able to direct you to the nearest dealer of Shure.

V15 is a discontinued model (long, long ago). So the chances of getting a NOS piece from Singapore or elsewhere, is quite slim. But if you're hell bet on owning one, you should be able to get used ones from internet sellers. Also, there are specialists who selll stylii for the various flavours of V15s.

And when in Singapore, I wouldn't trust Sim Lim too much. My experience of purchasing stuff from there was not great. Look for specialist audio retailers.

There are a few shops in the Adelphi Mall.. they sell a lot of records, and equipment there. Although, be warned, Singapore is avery expensive place to buy these kinds of things.. espcially records.. they were selling records that you can buy online for about $20 they were selling for upwards of $80.. although, I did splurge and buy a couple of pretty rare alternative rock records there once.

FYI: the cart ur after is shown as a DJ cart

Thanks Denom, sent them a mail. Let's see. BTW I've also noted that M44-7 is a DJ cart; I was told that it is a compatible cart to the Dual and hence the interest.

BTW, can anyone suggest any other cart like AT / Goldring etc which could match the Dual?

Hi Denom,

Even I got a mail from him. I asked which cart would suit the Dual. I'm quoting the contents of the mail for the benefit of others who are on the same boat that I'm in. Now the ball is in my court. Will have to check which one would fit the Dual.
Dear Capt,

It is an impossible task to keep specifications on every turntable manufactured in the world, we cannot offer specific cartridge recommendations based on the turntable model. So to find a compatible phono cartridge for your turntable, you will need to know the cartridge mounting method and the tonearm tracking force range.

Unless the turntable is very inexpensive or very esoteric, the cartridge mount will be one of the following two types:

1) Standard Mount - by far the most common

Two screws, half an inch apart, thread through the cartridge body to secure it to the headshell, which then plugs into the tone arm.

2) P-mount - Primarily on Technics brand turntables

The four prongs at the back of the cartridge plug directly into the tone arm. A set screw goes through the side of the cartridge at the back, to hold it in place on the tone arm.

The other important turntable specification is the tracking force range of the tone arm. This is typically given in grams, e.g., 1 to 4 grams tracking force.

Using the mounting method and the tracking force as your guide, look at the Shure line of phono cartridges. In descending levels of sound quality, we have the following phono cartridges available:

Cartridge - Application - Mounting type

M97XE - audiophile - standard

M92E - versatility - both

M78S - 78 RPM - standard

The N78S replacement stylus will work in any of the above cartridges, providing them with wide-groove / 78 RPM record playback capability.

All DJ cartridges are standard mount, but these are not recommended for home audio use.

For more Info, pls visit the following

Based on the desired, I wd advise the INR pricing.

M44-7 is a DJ cartridge. Very high output of 9+mV. Perhaps one of the highest output, if not THE highest, output cartridge.

In fact I never play my Pioneer PL200 more than the 2nd or 3rd notch of the pre-amp. It's that loud! It has a very good bass. This cartridge is supposed to be a very good tracker since it is designed for jockeys who must scratch! It has rarely skipped in my system.

The M97xE is supposed to be the replacement for the V15, although there are folks (way too many, in fact) who say they are not a patch on the V15s. The V15s were discontinued due to the unavailability (or was it rarity or costliness?) of a material which was used in making the stylus. It was a living classic and now even more desirable as it's been discontinued. And opinion is further divided as to which was the best version. Some swear by the Type III whereas others do by the Type IV.
