Which Active Speakers to look at?

@esanthosh,..

Ola!:)

Arm twisted a Swedish friend of mine into buying the Behringer Truth 1031A off bajaao.com, and had the pleasure of setting them up for him yesterday including an initial listen.

Behringer: TRUTH B1031A

Out of the box impressions with room compensation at max (too many reflective and not nearly enough absorptive surfaces in a small, new flat):

Huge, and seems a very inert cabinet on a knuckle-rap. Impressive overall build and finish.

The bass on the Kevlar cones is very taut with good depth, was very surprised considering they were new. Massive Attack sounds,..MASSIVE. Heh

Has good overall tone and mid's, even if the treble can get a little edgy due to a suspect source/ file. Wide sweet spot, unlike a usual monitor. Very good focus with a small amount of toe-in.

Not currently the ideal environment to hear them, also being new, but shall update sonic perceptions as he slowly settles in. He's already in love though :yahoo:.

Impressive for the money spent, for sure. And if the gyaan on kevlar cones is to be believed, give them 80-100 hrs to "settle in" and you should have one cracker of a setup.

Again, this was being driven directly of a laptop headphone out/ phone, so I feel a good "pre" of sorts (DAC/ Other) in the chain would just take it to another level. Strangely sounds better from a phone than the laptop :indifferent14:. Good stuff.

All this IMHO!!

Cheers
