Which CD Player for around Rs.50K ?

I am not sure NAD will fit the requirements of the OP. The sound of the NAD CDPs and amps are all coloured pushing the low frequencies a bit more than others. They are certainly not the last word in transparency.

The CA 850C may be a good bet with high end DAC capabilities. If I remember right, Asit is using that.

Cheers

shivam,

have you auditioned the marantz KI pearl lite CDP? if not pls listen to it.
this cdp is just beauty can also be used as DAC with digital and usb input.this is the only player along with audiolab 8200cd with dac facility.globally both are priced similar.marantz takes the edge because of usb as transport.

I already own a Marantz player and I hate the mechanical noise from it when the disc spins. I am not concerned about USB transport since my high-end HD based media player takes care of flac. I don't use mp3 or wav format at all.

The CA 840C is top of the line CD Player with digital inputs. No USB/ async inputs though. Only Co-axial and optical inputs.

NAD sound signature may not necessarily be bad all times. It definitely helps in taming the most bright speakers. Bright sounding amp and bright sounding speakers may be horribly a wrong combination for many.
Most entry level amps/ cd players are not neutral. They are either emphasized on lower frequencies or on higer frequencies.

+1, I agree

Even CA740 has digital in.

That is discontinued I guess. The last few ex-repair and ex-display pieces were being sold for 200 at few richer sounds stores here in UK.

I wanted to buy one for that price and sell the DacMagic and the Yamaha CD player I have. But my set-up is sounding so good I'm scared to touch it for now until its a drastic upgrade.

hey - all those recommending 8200. Have you listened to it first hand? One of my friends is in the UK right now so I can ask him to get me one. I read it was quality control issues, the CD tray gets stuck and many times it can't detect/ read cds.

Hi,

I have been in similar journey for quiet long time, while people say CD is of their prime importance, these days FLAC and lossless APPLE and HD audio download is going to be future.

While I have decided to have EPOS M16i and Cary Integrated Amp and will hold me good for years to come, narrowing down on CD player has been the most challenging one.

While lot of people prefer Arcam, Rega mostly in india.

The best one will always be Roksan, Naim, Cary and Creek Destiny

For your budget and little higher, you can also audition these latest models
Dont miss Yamaha and Onkyo due to perceptions as they are adding good transport and dual dac configuration.

Newer models are hell lot better and you can look at these as well for your budget

Yamaha CD-S1000 - Yamaha India
Music Fidelity M3CD - Audio XXX - Chennai
Creek Evolution - (Distributor is in bangalore, Honest and transparent person)
Onkyo C-7000R CD Player
Exposure(Exposure - High Fidelity Engineering since 1974) - Distirbutor is from Bangalore(Abhishek Biswas - nice and honest guy to deal with)
Pioneer PD-D9Mk2-K - Tuned by Airstudios engineers.

If you want DAC and mP3 file playback ( they will be out of budget), but futuristic ones

Music Fidelity M6CD
Marnatz KI Pearl lite
Audiolab 8200

Little up the antic

Roksan
Naim
Creek Destiny
Cary Audio
Quad Elite

These ones will serve you for years with no quality issues

Thanks
Venkat

I will not recommend the Rega CDP . I am using the Rega for 6months now, Some of my disc is not playing in my Rega Apollo CDP:eek:. SOme times it reads and sometimes it doesn't:mad:. Frustrated with this Player. The sound seems to be good but the compatibility problem is a headache.

regards

For < 50000

All these brands should work out and also they have Indian Dealership

Arcam FMJ CD17

Rega Apollo - Sound wise no problems, but as eariler there are some issues with Discs loading

Exposure 2010S - Should come to somewhere 1000$ and old proven equipment with Burr Bown DAC

QuaD Elite CD - close 700 pounds

My favorites

Rokasan Candy - Cinerama Yestwanthpur - They run famous showrooms of cinebels

Creek Evolution _ last time I asked him for price quoted arnd 42K

Music Fidelity M3CD or Cyrus low end - 1000 pounds.

above all Pioneer GClef or D series in US is known for whatever your asking for

- Fast and quite loader mechanism
- Excellent sound and reliability is unmatchable.

Last I have been also briefed on this french line
Advance Acoustic • Produits - MCD 204

Thanks
Venkat

Though I do not own it, my personal vote goes to Marantz Pearl Lite SACD player. It is a very good product and compares favourably to many DACs in the price range.

No Issues whatsoever.. been using one last one year.... great player...:ohyeah:

Cambridge audio 851c seems to the player to beat these days. It has got good specs and great flexibility.

Any users so far, really tempted by it as it can be source comp for ages to come.

The earlier series of 850 had really good reviews

Whatever CD/SACD player you consider buying, especially at that price level, you may want to make sure it has a DAC input option (digital-in)...
