Which CD Player for around Rs.50K ?

Whatever CD/SACD player you consider buying, especially at that price level, you may want to make sure it has a DAC input option (digital-in)...

This is an old thread. I have already bought a cd player.
I opted for NAD C565BEE cd player. It has good sound and also functions as a DAC though I use it only as a player. I have written my impressions of this player in another thread.

I think you have enough budget and nowadays cd players are not that costly however you can find some big brand cd players as well.

Can you recommend a good sounding CD-Player for around USD1000 which is available in India and if possible a dealer for the same ?

I was looking at models from Marantz, Rega, Cambridge Audio and Cyrus but couldn't decide.

Before spending such a huge amount just look at the features of the same so that it does not break down soon.

Like I had said earlier, this thread is very old and I have already bought a player. The original post was in Feb 2011.

Reviving this thread...I know Dr. Shivam has brought NAD...now it my turn :D

Just starting my R&D on this with a budget of 50K...would prefer a player that can also be used as a USB DAC a la Audiolab

What are my options and where can I check them out in Bangalore?

Danke!

Rega Apollo-R will be 45-50k. But I am not sure if it has USB implementation. You can get the contact of the Bangalore Rega dealer from their website. From my last discussion with the dealer, there was no stock available for ready demo.

Another option is Exposure 1010 s2 and it can be checked out at Audio Dynamics in Koramangala. However, I believe he doesn't (yet) have an unboxed demo player but he does have a boxed piece.

Buy a Musical Fidelity M1 DAC and use any old disc player as a transport.

Now this is something I am very keen to understand. Some folks say that with a transport/DAC combo, you are only increasing the component chain. For anyone with an existing transport (such as a cheap BD player), what is the perceived degradation of quality as compared to buying a dedicated CDP?

+1 to that. The Apollo-R does not has USB implementation. If you want to go down the DAC path, the Rega DAC at around Rs 50K is also a compelling buy. A few FM own this DAC and seem to be very happy.

I have a very lightly used Arcam FMJ 37 player that I used before I decided to come back permanently to Bangalore and import my larger system. It is with original box and remote of course and has been used in hours rather than weeks. it is a little beyond this budget but if you can stretch it and if you are interested PM me. Thanks.

Hi guys,

Even i am looking for such CD player, i saw many of the suggestion up there, but from all this, which one do you think i should go with? :s

PM me if you are interested in a Arcam FMJ 37. Very sparingly used but you may need to stretch your budget a little bit. Will pay SACDs too.

Another good sounding player is Musical Fidelity A3.5

Soundstage is very large with this player and unlike the common misconception, it is quite good. The vocals are the best part of this player. Very musical ! Low frequencies sound natural with not overly tight bass.

There's no option to use it as a DAC but if you can find a new old stock or a used player, it can be good value for money. You can save a bundle with this player.

What about using the Oppo 103 as a CD player? Think of DVD as a bonus.

Other options: NAD 565BEE, Advance Acoustics MCX400, Arcam CD17...opinions anyone?

Sorry for bumping this post but along with the 3 (under 60K) CD players above I got a few other options now as I increased my budget to 75K.

a. Marantz KI Pearl Lite
b. Vincent CDS 1.1 (may be replaced by the CDS 4)
c. Exposure 2010S2

I am also told YBA, Cyrus and Simaudio have CD players that might fit in this budget.

Or should I get the Oppo 103 (also about 60K) or Oppo 95 (at about 80K this would be pushing be beyond what I initially intended to spend)?

Are you getting the Exposure below 75k? I believe the msrp is above 90k.

I think Cyrus is much more. I'd love to match my amp with a Cyrus CD (with reservations) but I cannot afford it. A little ex-dem or special-offer seeking in UK would make it perfectly possible, but not here.

Reservations: my Cyrus 3 CD player was returned under warranty, and it took them weeks to fix and return it, and it eventual broke down and I gave it away. I regret that now; I'm sure it could have been tinkered with, but I was moving house at the time. Also... very cool sound, I preferred something warmer then.
