Which CD Player for around Rs.50K ?

Are you getting the Exposure below 75k? I believe the msrp is above 90k.

I have been quoted 80K for the 2010S2.

I think Cyrus is much more.

I will be reviewing the YBA, Cyrus and Simaudio today. I have no idea of the model numbers as yet. I suspect the YBA might be the older YAC 201.

I have also been offered the Exposure 1010, Arcam CD17 and the NAD 565bee.

Thanks for the quote update. Have you explored the 2010 DAC too? Apparently, it betters even the 3010 s2 CDP to an extent and has the MSRP of 84k.

Yes I did but it is way ouside my budget. i started with a budget of 50K for a good CD player. As it is I have stretched to 60 then 70K. I am loathe to push it any further. Getting a seperate transport and DAC would mean a budet exceeding 1L at which point a KI 15S (available at 1.2L) becomes an interesting option.

But I am holding firm at 70K which is why I have not jumped at the 2010S2 yet. I want to see what I can get for less than 70k.

I cannot believe that after 30 years they can't make a decent CD player for less than $1000 (which translates to abot Rs. 70,000 retial price). After all just about everyone uses the Sanyo transport. The power supply is not rocket science. Add a ESS Sabre DAC and some sheilding (again no rocket science) and I don't know what their problem is?

So far I like the KI Pearl lite for the value it offers. The Exposure is more expensive but also good value if you can get it under 80K. The Advance Acoustics also offers good value at 56K but at that point the Vincent CD 1.1 with XLR outputs is also available (at about the same price).

hmm, not even a year back, a CDP above 25k price use to astound me with the price. Now I do not seem to blink at 75k ... my dear wife is not liking this hobby.

Simple solution. Everytime you buy yourself a toy, make it a point to buy her some jewlery that costs about the same. This way you will think twice about new toys, and she wont mind the new toys as much.

Yesterday I heard the YBA 201, Cyrus CD6Se, Musical Fidelity M3 and Simaudio 260D (originally called the i1). The amp was decent (Accuphase E460) the speakers were wanting (Monitor Audio GX300) and the room needed a fair bit of bass/resonance management.

In a few days I will hear the NAD 565bee, Marantz KI Pearl Lite and maybe the Advance Acoustics MCX400.

Where can i hear the Vincent CDS 1.1 (or CDS 4) and Exposure 2010S2 in Mumbai?

The 4 Ts (Timing, Transparency, Timbre and Tone) are what I am looking for.

You might want to check out either the Rega Apollo or the Rega DAC, both available through HFV Mart for around Rs50K. Very good reviews on both, and a few FMs here own the Rega DAC and seem happy.

Best,
APK.

I know. Sadly our system rack cannot accept any CD players that are top loading. Havng been an owner of the original Philips-Magnavox 1000 CD player I should have made the option for a top loader. BTW Sony's competing (CDp 100 or 101 it was called) CD player was a front loader.

What was your impression of the YBA?

I found the YBA a bit too laid back and a bit soft.

I really need to evaluate the Roksan Kandy 2, Marantz KI Pearl Lite and maybe the Advance Acoustics MCX400.

The KI can be used as a DAC and the best part is that they have provided Coax and USB input (and TOSlink but I don't like optical).

The MCX has a tube output and that might add a bit of tubey, mellowness to the sound (have not heard it).

In the end though features will only be considered if the 4 Ts (Timing, Transparency, Timbre and Tone) are satisfied.

Sadly I will never be able to listen to these with the same amp and speakers.

Then again every EU, US or UK based friend I have talked to has recommended that I listen to the Oppo 95. Many have bought it without giving it a listen. It's ESS Sabre DAC is said to be a notch about the Cirrus Logic DAC used in the KI or PCM 1798 used in the Roksan).

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
