Why are Indian prices for Speakers high for only some brands? a comparison.

If speaker purchase is to for show off, then nothing to comment. If it is for the sound quality, then buy Indian company speakers. Few Indian companies are giving speakers that sound much better then most expensive speakers of 10s of thousand to Lakhs of Rs. Just try them some time. Some Indian company provide speakers to test it for full satisfaction. And once you listen them, you will know how good they are. These FS speakers may cost about 10K. I dont know if I can name that company. Let me know if I can do that.

Wow, thats amazing. Only 10k for a highend floor stander? Even my micro-TL cost more than that. Will be eager to know the contacts for their costing secrets.

Last year, I came across this Kolkata brand FS, http://www.alliedaccoustics.co.in/product/ts803.html. I listened to it and I liked it very much. Promoters used to work with Sonodyne (as they claimed, and I didn't have any source to check veracity). This speaker was priced at 15K a pair. But I didn't have much confidence in it. Problem is when you get something at low price, you start looking for its faults, even if the product is impeccable, there is a high possibility that you would back out.

@jagdish_p : not able to download the attachment. Can you or any FM, DM it to me?

Thanks in advance !

If you want to check the quality of a speaker, there is a simple method I know. I created an audio file which has seven sur (sa re ga ma ...) in first octave (15 Hz to 30 Hz). Then same sur in next octave ( 30 to 60 Hz). And this series goes up to 10 octaves, covering frequency up to about 16000 Hz.
Most of the people may not be able to listen the last sur Ni of this 10th octave. So there is no advantage of going further.
If speaker is good you will listen a continuity of sound volume in these sur when played by the speaker. Most of the speaker will have sudden rise or fall of sound level as sur changes. And that is indicator of bad speaker.
Other problem with low quality speaker is presence of secondary octave sound. It means sa of first octave will have sa sound of second third etc. octave. You can test it with microphone recording and analyzing frequency spectrum or if you have trained ears you can tell just by listening.
And yes lot of high end speakers have these problems and some Indian company speakers dont have these problems. If time permits I will present with data these comparison in a new thread.

Yes I do agree to some extend. If Bose speakers are available at 20K nobody will buy them now as people will start questioning its quality even if the speakers are still the same. IMO cost and quality usually have a direct relationship. I have seen some times that companies are very poor at arriving at the actual cost inquired in manufacturing a product due to poor costing model. They probably consider only the material cost and not other non-visible cost like labour, burden, overheads, transports, etc. etc.

A poor costing model will erode all the profits of an organization very quickly.
