Hi,
As posted earlier,I finished my HTPC seup & may need to improve.
http://www.hifivision.com/home-thea...4331-finally-built-my-budget-bluray-htpc.html

I have connected Xonar D2X with 5.1 analoge to Onkyo AVR for Bluray playback.Usually its recommended to keep SW(PDVD) & Xonar volume to keep not more than 60%.If done that I need to crank AVR vol to 45-50(normally 35 is OK).
So will adding a cheap 5.1preamp will solve the problem.like-

So if yes ,them which one to buy?
Is the last one better than the rest ?Looking at chip/capasitors/builtQ?

Pls.put your thoughts.I was to post it in DIY,but there is selection & so posted here.
Thanks.

I dont think thats such a good idea. you are adding another component in the chain, which is probably of much inferior quality and will add distortion.

If you have to increase the volume of onkyo to higher value, thats because you have reduced the incoming volume on a previous component. why dont u play with all the three volumes and see what setting you like best. Raise the volume in pdvd and xonar control panel. its not always a bad thing. On my desktop pc, I keep mucking around with the volumes, dont see much of distortion irrespective of where its more or less as long as the actual listening volume doesnt go up a lot.

PDVD volume output is already less than that of vlc.It doesnt boost original volume.Secondly PDVD volume control is actually system volume control(xonar). If I adjust one,I can see same happening with another.Keeping volume also may cause distortion & so needed something can gain & work as preamp(cheaper)

Is there any option in the setup menu of your Onkyo avr to increase input source level? If yes, try increasing that.
In my Denon 1611, I can vary the input source level from -12db thru' 0 to +12db.

Yes it is there, spk level increase sounds a little bright,so trying the new eperience.
