Yamaha RX-V667

How did he make that happen? Did he squeeze in the AVR in Cabin baggage? And then he got lucky that the customs officials didn't screen his baggage?

He unwrapped the package, put AVR and accesories in his baggage, flew all the way and walked out of Chennai airport....no questions asked

else he got the transmogrifier gun?

will try that next time for liberty statue :D

Not possible in Mumbai. One of HFV members AVR was brought in same way, customs said come tomorrow to get AVR,else pay duty.He has to as not possible to come next day.

@$400 the RX - V667 is below the permissible limit of Rs25000. I was able to get mine from US with out paying any duty. Not sure if it was an oversight or a waiver by the customs at Hyderabad. I unpacked the AVR and brought it in a checked in Suitcase.

I have found Mumbai, Delhi & Hyderabad customs to be very "forgiving" when it come to customs duty. I've always walked free with lacs worth of electronics hardware through these ports without paying a single penny as bribe. The tough ones are Bangalore and Kochi where they scrutinize the luggage a lot more.

Thanks everyone for the advices.
Iam considering all your opinions, lets see where i end.
Can someone list all the HIFI audio shops in chennai ? (iam relatively new in Chennai)

Just got my Yamaha RX V667 :)
A friend picked it up at Singapore for around 800 SG$ (after refund on GST), which translates to roughly 28k. . Can't wait to pair it up with a nice pair of bookshelf speakers!

Awesome buy. I bought from the same Adelphi mall not very long back. But i guess i paid a little more than you did . It came up to about 850 SGD. After all the bargain.
Anyways iam still trying to get time to audition some speakers in chennai before i can buy atleast the front speakers and the Sub. Let me know what kind of speakers you settle for.

Is it safe to get the avr in suitcase...Doesnt it cause damage to the avr... because one cannot depend on how the luggages r handled by the airport guys....

Depends on how you pack. You can still retain the original packing and bring in a suitcase. The point I am trying to make is that you are allowed legally to bring in articles of value upto Rs25000. (Retain the bill copy). Given below is the extract from Customs site BAGGAGE RULES

Articles allowed free of duty for

(a) All passengers of and above 10 years of age and returning after stay abroad of more than three days.
(i) Used personal effects, excluding jewellery, required for satisfying daily necessities of life.
(ii) Articles other than those mentioned in Annex. I upto a value of Rs. 25,000 if these are carried on the person or in the accompanied baggage of the passenger.

Annexure 1 : Limits Liquor, Cigarettes, Firearms and Gold & Silver

Ok people I am so tired of finding the right speakers in my hectic schedules.
So I am planning on giving away the AVR. Yeah you heard me right.
Iam ready to part with it for nothing less than 31K.
Its a brand new piece, never been used.
For direct pick up only.
Old box not available, got it from singapore (will provide the bill for checking the price).

Cheers

P.S. - Its been such a painful process for me to figure out some good small speakers to go with my AVR.
The output of AVR is 70W per channel, How many watts speaker should I actually look for ? and the subwoofer does size matter/ watts matter ?

Anyways if no one picks it up i would have to live with it without using it.
Please PM me if interested

This thread has been relatively dormant.
Not many owners of Yamaha RXV667 i guess.

Well this might help someone in the near future.

Day before yesterday when i was trying to play a DVD through my player, something odd happened and the AVR went into standby and refused to get turned on manually or via remote. All pass through functions were working perfectly fine.

I was so shocked to think that the AVR went for a toss.
I started researching all the web and finally pulled out that idiotic cost cutting effort of YAMAHA to provide a manual on a CD.
After reading quiet a bit i realized i have no option but take it to the service center.
Gave me creeps considering the standard of care i will get for my brand new, never used AVR.
I sat online the whole evening and came to know of the problem.

The PROTECTIVE CIRCUITRY had got activated and shut down the AVR.
(may be because of some kinda wrong wiring, difference in V, ohms ...)

Once i figured out the problem my next was to look in for the solution.

Thanks to another North American forum i got the solution. Here you go guys.

When the protective circuitry is activated you can kick back the YAMAHA RX V667 to life by

Disconnecting all wires
Turning the AVR off and the on
Pressing the the Main zone + info + t together for 5 secs.

Vola the AVR came to life as new :-)
All functions restored.

Can anyone help me with a service manual for the Yamaha RX V667 or tell me how to factory restore it, update latest firmware... ?

Thanks

Thanks visaster,I thought I am investing in AVR which can hold my neck.
Forums do make help each others & the gr8 example is HFV & we.
