1 sub, 1000 questions - placement and so on

Thanks Kittu.
Canton seems interesting with a passive radiator and 12" woofer. Anyone who has experienced canton subs?

Got a response from rythmik - The DS1510 driver is not available. It will be in stock in 6 weeks. Come back to us in 6 weeks to give you the shipping quote.

Well they seem to be alyways running out of the DS1510 and H500PEQ amps.

Infact - in October when i ordered mine it was the last piece available and was intended for someone else, after a couple of requests, Brian was kind enough to reserve it for me.

I thought they are winding up operations. 3 weeks ago they said the same thing, come back after 6 weeks. Now again they say the same.
There were few dual driver kits also mentioned on the site. But they are also not available till foreseeable future.

What should I do to quench my thirst NOW?

If you are open to DIY

Use your present Emm Drivers, Build yourself a properly tuned ported cabinet.
Add a 300 watt Subwoofer plate amp on each sub which coincidentally is very much available in India
And be done with it . :clapping::clapping:

Oops - happened to see the thread now .

Well the cab can be modified to make it ported. you will need to router to cut a circular hole in whichever place you feel it will not affect the cabinets integrity.

On the basis of port tuning you require source the ports. try and avoid keeping the port lengths too long as this would cause chuffing due to air velocity emanating from port.
The cabinet seems to be well braced so IMO you will not have to add any additional bracing.

In a ported enclosure, you will have to damp the enclosure, you can use bitumen sheets, Acoustic foam etc.
The enclosure seems to be filled with polyfill, reduce the amount of polyfill in the enclosure.

work out the exact air volume in the enclosure before you start working on the port diameter / length .

I don't think that you will be able to attach a plate amp to this enclosure as you would need to make a cut out at the rear or sides which would affect the structural integrity of the cab. So stick to your NAD or another Power amp for now

golden rule ----- Damp a ported enclosure and Stuff a Sealed one.

thanks. How do I find exact volume? Can't fill with water and then measure it :( that would have been easiest. measuring internal volume can be a challenge.
Would I need to take the cabinet apart for damping?
I was thinking of front firing.
For plate amp, can we not just drill holes and fix it? It would jut out a little, but that should be fine.

lol ..yeah you can't measure by filling water....well air volume in cubic feet ...... same way you measure cubic feet of a room .

No would not need to take the cabinet apart for damping ....it may not be required to damp, if the cabinet is well braced and it surely looks that way

Plate amp ..... - well the plate amp, the reverse side of it usualy has a transformer etc / depending of the topology of the amp .. and without a cut out. there would be practically no way of puttng it ..

However you can try this .. keep the plate amp separate from the Sub cabinet .
Allow the plate amp leads to go in the cab thats it .
Build a small little box for the plate amp and let it rest on the floor besides the sub or on top of the sub .

hmm - if you can make a cabinet, what would it take to ship it to Delhi? Would we need to crate it?
Since buying a JBL 12" or buying another used from forum is not materializing, I am thinking of ordering a kit from either gr research (12" 4 ohm + 370PEQ) or rythmik (they are out of stock on 1510 + 600 amp : We have DS1501 with A370PEQ3 CI kits. Nothing with H600 amp is in stock.).
I am leaning towards 12" GR research paper cone as it is supposed to be good for music as well.

Well, would need to pack it well in cardboard boxes with Styrofoam etc - and mark it as fragile. But it wont be too much of a hassle
However weight would push courier charges up quite a lot.

Well honestly speaking I would pick the Rythmik drivers over the Gr-research ones. they are pricier though. Well Rythmik subs are brilliant for music. I am extremely pleased with the tight and accurate bass. I use my sub now purely for music.
I will be procuring another 15" Rythmik kit in the near future(August) and will build a sealed unit with 2x18" passive radiators from TC sounds

Gr-research drivers are pretty good as well.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
