4 STAR HD Channels Test Started

It's an anamorphic picture. i.e 16:9 Aspect ratio sent on an PAL Signal. you need to anamorphically resize (widescreen) and it'll look fine. you'll notice the capture size are the exact PAL resolution (720x576). just needs to be resized to 854 x 576 cheers.
I think, it needs to be resized to 1024 x 576 cheers for 16:9. :)
That is right. I was wondering why 854x576 or for that matter what the relevance of PAL is in a HD picture. These channels look to be TRUE HD channels and 'Star Plus HD' featured here also is different from the upscaled SD channel currently showing on TataSky HD. This fact is also borne out by the 'HD' monicker added to the logo watermark in these screenshots, which by the way have been incorrectly captured in the wrong aspect ratio.

simple, sanjay. it's an SD grab. it's not easy to get an HD grab, because you have to get past HDCP isses if you are grabing from an STB, even if the signal is not encrypted. however, grabbing an SD (composite, sVideo et al) output of the same HD STB is relatively easy.

anyway the OP can shed further light on this

as far as 1024x576 versus 854 x576/480, and DAR / PAR signalling., PM me if you want a detailed explanation. As a thought starter 848/854 x 480 in NTSC has the same Aspect as 848/854 x 576 in PAL - 16:9 ! Also 720 x480 is 4:3 in NTSC and 720 x 576 is 4:3 in PAL. ever wondered why? the maths don't add up do they? 4:3 should be 720 x 540, right? :p:D

Try a digital camera placed on a tripod or a solid foundation. Digital cameras have 8MP+ resolution so you'll get a crisp picture showing RGB lines. I have done that in the past, so know it works very well.

sure, that's what I would have done..

Ok this might clear some confusion:

Star Network has confirmed that it will be launching High Definition channels later this year, which are being billed as the first service of their kind for UK viewers.

Whilst details are currently sketchy about the new channels, the announcement was made at Star TV UK's tenth birthday celebrations at a Central London five-star hotel on Saturday night.

The new channels are likely to be Star Plus and Star Gold - rated as the number one channels in their genre in the UK (BARB). The standard definition versions will continue in their current form. However, the HD services are expected to launch as a part of Sky Digital's HD offerings on the DTH platform.

The network is keeping tightlipped about the plans but with Star India launching its HD broadcasts imminently, the UK and US HD formats do not look too far behind. They are expected sometime in the second half of this year.
