JBL Tube Subwoofer

Question:
  1. What is the amplification in my 5.1 HT ?
  2. Do i need an extra amplifier for this JBL woofer tube, or it has built in amp?
  3. If yes, how many watt amp is required to hook up just for this woofer?
  4. Where i get a cheap amp just for this woofer, because i am not willing to pay more for amp just for this woofer?
  5. What about amplier kit ..will that work?

Hi,

My answers to your questions:
1. Chip amps. maybe some TDA chips.
2. Yes, you would need a separate amplifier to power it.
3. 100-300W.
4. You need a mono amp for this woofer, or a stereo amp that could be bridged.
Car amps won't work at home, as you would require a solid 12V power supply. which isn't a wise option.
You could use a power amp that could be bridged also which can drive a 2 ohm load per channel.
5. It could be the best option if you have DIY skills and some electronics knowledge.

Instead of this silly cylinder which could roll here and there, why not use a 12~15 inch pro woofer in a decent cabinet, these are very efficient and less power hungry.

If you wan't to use a car audio woofer then this a better option:JBL - CS1215B - 12 inch Subwoofer Box Enclosure (1100 W) - Buy Online @ Snapdeal.com
Its cheaper, It's very compact and would give tight and clean bass as it's a sealed box.

Aniket
