A good friend is looking out for a music system that can do the following:

Consist of:

1. Amplfier
2. Speaker
3. Built in or outboard streaming facility. Essentially this music system needs to receive music wirelessly so will need an onboard DAC.

I am not too good with these kind of systems. Any suggestions ?

I was thinking, Squeezebox touch with an entry level speaker and two channel amp ;)

How about this combination ?

Marantz NA7004 network player
Marantz PM5004 Amp
Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 speakers

Is his need for wireless streaming that great that he must sacrifice 50% of the sound to that? Because that's technically what's happening here. What device would he be streaming from?

@corelement,

Squeezebox touch from a PC. He is not an audiophile. Just someone who appreciates good sound and music. Will mostly listen to high bitrate mp3 or itunes along with the occassional cd played from an old cd player.

Have a 7-month old Logitech Squeezebox Touch imported from USA. I am going to put it up for sale. If you are interested, send me a PM.

Whats the trip with the HRT streamer company? Do they have something interesting? Anyone has experience with them ?

Vinny, I may be wrong but most of HRT products except maybe the hrt ms2 + version dont do wireless streaming, eventhough the name may indicate otherwise. As for feedback, it seems to be quite positive.

If the room size is not big, I would recommend:

SB Touch (About 13K if bought from US or resale in India)
Topping TP20 amp (About 4K)
Usher S-520 speakers (23K, ARN Bangalore)

Its a very musical system costing much less than 60K. I am using one and can say surely for it. If your friend does not like the tiny TP20 or has a bigger room, he can go for a NAD 326 amp as well.

Since I bought SBT, life has really changed with so many radio channels all over the world waiting to be "touched".

How much is the PSB Alpha priced at ? Is this a better speaker than the diamond 10.1 ?

Not sure how PSB Alpha compares with diamond 10.1. But PSB Alpha is one wonderful speaker at about 14-16K. Its a heavenly match with NAD amps. We tested PSB Alpha with TP20 amp in one of our Pune HFV meet and they went very well. The review is here:

If budget is not a constraint, entry level NAD amps would be way to go.

SB Touch + NAD 315/316 + PSB Alpha :)

This. I think this combo will do very well. The Alpha B1 is an excellent speaker. I personally found it much better than the Wharfedale 10.1.

Your friend may even be able to go for the PSB Image B5 speakers (23K, I think) with the NAD 316 if he stretches things by just a bit.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
