A Hotter Future Is Certain, but How Hot Is Up to Us.

The headline could be misleading as their population is 11,500 people, I think my housing society has more people :D
I assure you it’s a small but legit country in the pacific. I been there.
People have lived there for a long time.
Their numbers may pale in comparison with ours. But does it make a difference given they are losing their janmabhoomi thanks to global warming with help from the rest of humanity?
Their small numbers make it easy to relocate and rehabilitate.
The headline is dramatic as you point out but it’s definitely more catchy than a headline that says half a million people migrate from South Sudan due to drought, crop failures and violence. Climate induced migration is usually slow and insidious and happening in many parts of the world.
There are those who postulate farmer suicides are linked too.
Check out some visuals from Tuvalu:

Anyone here has bought an EV ?
What I have understood is that 40% of the cost of an EV is the battery and that despite warranty has a high probability of giving up in 8 years and you are left with an highly depreciated vehicle with no resale value since the cost of battery replacement is the cost of the vehicle.
Any research/view on it ?
Came across this recently…

This article may give some insight regarding EV batteries.

How heat waves affect our brains can be best experienced in the Mumbai local crowded trains during summer 😅
That’s conceivably worse!
Heat combined with over crowding, and assault on all the senses.
Wonder what stops the government from increasing the number of trains as per demand, frequency and air conditioning etc. after all it’s for mass public transportation and all users pay for it.

Actually the railways in Mumbai are the lifeline and functioning is really great . Tickets are very cheap with trains generally coming in at every 3 mins frequency although AC trains are few.
But the main crux of the situation is our over population which has an omnipresent detrimental effect seen across everything.

I agree, they are essential and keep running- hence termed a lifeline. Good to know they run every 3 minutes (during peak hours?) It shows the administration is trying to address some of the issues.
Women only coaches seem to be popular among women users in this age of public harassment and groping in overcrowded situations.

A large number of people hanging out of these trains fall every year. 7 everyday according to this:

Yes, The population which commutes is large in cities like Mumbai and likely to grow.

The important questions are- Is the state of Mumbai metro going to remain the same 5 years from now? 10 years from now?
What do daily users want? I would guess - safety, reliability and comfort

The population will keep growing also due to the influx of people in major cities and the metros will be facing the same challenges again of overcrowding even if frequency or bogies get increased like the trains. Currently during peak hours they do get crowded especially on the main routes.

Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore metro trains are air conditioned.
Wonder if upgrading the Mumbai metro would be possible sometime soon. It’s far more efficient and economical to do this compared to thousands of cars.
The big challenge could be the strange mindset that poor people don’t need to be travelling in AC climes or 5 star environs.
Cheap fares for public transportation can definitely be subsidised if there is public demand and political will.
After all there are subsidies for electricity and other public services already being provided.
Chinese cities are proof this clean, efficient and comfortable public transportation be provided for anyone.
Getting more people from all SE classes to use public transportation has been long recognised as a good way to reduce car traffic congestion.

Mumbai metros are also airconditioned, decently maintained apart from one of the metro station leakages experienced during this monsoon on the newer route. Many times it is better to use these services to travel fast rather than get stuck in traffic jams.
