Hi All,

Sorry to ask such a basic question - hope I will get enlightened by the answers.

I have a denon 1610 av receiver and bookshelf speakers. now I want to add a marantz stereo amp for listening to songs - I will have to use the same bookshelf speakers though.

If I were to switch between denon vs marantz for movie and music respectively, should I plug out the cables manually and accordingly change from denon to marantz respectively (or) is there anyother smarter way to do it ?

Have speaker cables with banana plugs at the speaker end.
Then you can connect speaker cables from either your AVR or stereo amp in matter of seconds

Thank you, ofcourse I have banana plugs, but everytime I will have to do it manually only if I understand rightly - Is that the only way or is there any other better way ?

The only other way is to have a switch as suggested by Ashokji

I made switch myself using electic plastic board & 2way buttons. It coast me less than Rs.70

Hi amateur, there is a product from Beresford as TC-7220 Audio Router, I presume that is what you are looking at. Regards,

thank you all for your replies - I thought I had asked a very stupid question :-), glad that the product that I intended as a solution (switch) is indeed available.

Where do I get in Chennai and cost ? any idea ?

Hi Amatuer,

I have seen a speaker selector switch that is electronic operated, made by Torvin in some demo rooms . Contact them , the Tel No is available in their website.

N.Murali

Tried torvin , but it seems they don't have such one and also advised me not to go for such a switch as it can cause damage to speakers if I accidentally switched on both amps, etc.

not sure if there is any other place in chennai where I can get like this. People who use such a switch can let me know if it's indeed ok to use.

You have been given wrong information by Torvin. There is nothing unsafe about a simple speaker switch. At any one time only one set of connection is open. Thus even if you switch on both amps, only one amp will be connected to the speakers and nothing will happen to either the speakers or to the amps.

Switches are used not only for audio, but also for video and a lot of other things in AV. If you go to a large showroom, you will find them playing any amp/AVR you want with any set of speakers that they have on demo from any source that you want. How do you think they do that? Simple - a switch.

I do fabricate simple mechanical two way switches that can be used in two ways. One is to switch two amps between a pair of speakers. The other is to switch two pairs of speakers between a single amp. If you want I can fabricate one for you, BUT only after Feb 10th as I am in Dubai now.

Cheers
