Guys,

I am planning to buy this recently launched 3D DLP PJ which is costing 999 USD. Comes with latest firmware that supposedly takes care of initial issues.

It will be bought to India by my cousin. Also planning to buy sainsonic 144 hz 3d glasses @ 30 USD each.

Is it a good buy? Will I be able to get support for Benq in India? Who knows what will go wrong with passage of time. I dont want to throw it as a piece of junk if anything goes wrong.

Thats the only thing which will decide if its a GO or NO-GO!

Appreciate your views.

Thanks,
Vishu

Seems to be an excellent rated projector. No experience with it. Look forward to your review and comments

Can I expect service and support from Benq India for this model?

That is the bone of contention...

I understand that there will be no warranty however can I expect after sales service and support for this model in India?

Can anyone answer this?

No you will not get it, you have to rely on the outside private service center for that.

Generally these work without trouble. I have a Benq flat panel, had some support problems-by way of delay in geting a spare,, but eventually it did come and got got fixed. Does that help, any?

This this way - the warranty is only for a year. If projector is kept dust free, well maintained, they don't fail in first year. You need to compare the savings vs risk.

Purchased in USA ?? whether the warranty is applicable in India ? I dont think so benq/Pana/Mits are giving international warranty.

Was yours covered under warranty? Was it US purchase?

Worst case scenario if anything fails in hardware or even for lamp replacement, where can I get these fixed esp in NCR? Can the Benq gys not fix it even if it means charging extra for it?

I see this idiom being used incorrectly very often on this forum ...

"Hey fellas ... I'm about to pull the plug on <replace name of gear>.. whaddaya think?"

Take a quick look at the free online dictionary -

Pull the plug (on someone)
1. Lit. to turn off someone's life-support system in a hospital. (Based on pull the plug (on something) {2}. This results in the death of the person whose life support has been terminated.) They had to get a court order to pull the plug on their father. Fred signed a living will making it possible to pull the plug on him without a court order.
2. Fig. to put an end to someone's activities or plans. (Based on pull the plug (on something) {2}.) The mayor was doing a fine job until the treasurer pulled the plug on him. David pulled the plug on Fred, who was taking too long with the project.

Benq 1070 has been officially released in India and you have excellent support - or that's what i hear. Support and warranty are two different things - while you'll get support for this model in India by way of spares, service etc, you will not get warranty as it was purchased in the US.
I was considering it seriously (was quoted Rs. 97k in Bangalore) but finally went with Epson 6100 - i sort of played it safe, but i needn't have as the product is getting pretty good reviews. I heard some negative comments on the build quality etc and didn't want to take a risk on my first PJ, but i must confess i haven't seen it with my own eyes.
The best part is lens shift - i don't think any other PJ in this price offers that.

Vishu,

if you are in Bengaluru, read further else ignore.

I've spoken to the services guys for a review/purchase they're at SampangiRamNagar near Corporation. Service has been outsourced to these guys and they do have time for freelancing off the records. So if you require, post here after you have bought this PJ and need service at extra cost(w/o service invoice) off the books repair.

My projector (PT-AE700E) purchased in UK in 2005, never required any support, help, fix in the last 8 years. Basically:

- keep the projector clean; every week wipe off the accumulated dust, if any
- clean the dust filter every six months
- ensure that you shut down the PJ properly (especially with bulb PJs)
- ensure operation in a ventilated environment
- as far as possible install it permanently

was reading the review for 1070 at projector central. Few short comings as per the review.

1. not so good black levels
2. no 2d to 3d conversion.
3. limited lens shift
4. loud iris
5. short lamp life
6. glasses gettting out of sync often, and very uncomfortable glasses.

Some of them may be not that bad, but a reviewer has to review. So has anyone researched/ given thought to these points?
