Hi,
Is it advisable to modify existing multiway speakers (read drivers in their cabinets) by removing their passive crossover, and adding an external active crossover - like dcx2496 from Behringer?
How to take care of other things like BSC for the cabinet? What other params are tweaked in a passive crossover (notch filter??) ?

Does active crossover work out in the end to be same as having bookshelf and subwoofer combo? Except may be extra splitting of tweeter.

regards

technically I understand what you say, but practically is it a close approximation?

3. No. The active XO should (ideally) split up all the frequencies. In the case you mention, the BS still has its passive crossover in the circuit.

any suggestions on active XO? Behringer first converts analog to digital, performs XO, and then converts back to analog - IIRC. Isn't that too much processing?
How good are analog active XO?

regards

while removing the existing passive crossover, remember to keep the exisiting series cap ( if you are planning to cross over the tweeter higher). if you plan on using the same or reduced crossover XO frequency, you might need a bigger cap

connecting the tweeter directly to the amp is kinda risky, tweeters are delicate things ;)
