About 4 months back, my SD STB from Asianet digital cable TV died after its 6 years of service. Since Asianet's cable service is of good quality in Kerala, I thought of sticking to the same and opted for an upgrade to HD STB. They gave me an offer of upgrade to Android HD STB, which I took after a bit of hesitation as it was something new for me. Here are the features of the same
1, 1080p HD quality
2, 5.1 surround sound
3, wifi enabled
4, internet ready
5, has some basic apps, including youtue, kids games etc
6, can control the STB using mobile app
7, can stream channels to your mobile/tablet, means you can watch one channel in TV and in parallel stream another channel to mobile/tablet
8, will get entire EPG in your mobile
9, PVR ready, need external hard disc/USB stick
10, can playback video/mp3 from USB stick
11, can add external keyboard / mouse, but they dont know where to procure it from
12, a universal remote for TV/STB
Altogether, the STB helped me to upgrade my old LCD TV to a smart TV and use my mobile as a master control device. Fellow members in Kerala can think about this as an alternative, in case if you are planning to migrate. Please check the support levels at your place before you take a call. In my area the support is really great, but heard not so positive comments from central kerala
