Advice regarding a STEREO only System

On paper there is a difference between the power of 5005 and 6007, but in real life that amounts to nothing. Both would have similar signatures. I have not heard 5005, but comparing 6005 to 8006, my take is that higher models are more linear and neutral whereas lower models tend to have V shaped presentation and more 'fun', if you may. I doubt you will have noticeable difference between 5005 and 6007.
The main addition of 6007 is the ESS Sabre DAC and all its connectivity options. Now IIRC, WXC 50 also uses the same DAC, has loads of physical connectivity. Plus offers you the advantage of streaming and Bluetooth. The cost of 5005 and WXC 50 is roughly equal to 6007.
Also I am a fan of keeping the digital and analog components separate.

I haven't heard the Elac so can't comment, but also try Dali Spektor in that price range. I've never seen someone unhappy with Dali.
Thank you. You made me arrive at some decisions. I wanted to have everything in one go. I think I will skip the 6007 and will settle for either pm5005 or compromise a little and go for NR1200. I was looking at the Fynn lineups this morning. Really love how they sound in some Youtube video demo.

Adding a sub, brings in lot of dynamics, making music or movies more pleasant.
My father in law has the Qacoustics Concept 20 with a HK stereo receiver, I personally liked the Yamaha network Receivers though. We went in with the same budget couple of years back and he's really happy listening to them almost everyday. The bass is definitely better than most in that price category. I've never got to own a pair, but since the first time I've auditioned speakers from that brand, they really impress me and I feel are real VFM.
I have a wharfedale d10 sealed sub, I think I could use it. I think if QA then I will choose between concept 20s or 3030i.

I moved from a PM 6006 to a Denon DRA-800H as I specifically wanted an all in one unit with HDMI and streaming . Marantz NR1200 was my first choice but it was not available then.

If you want a unit that does everything well then go for these receivers i.e. Option 3 else Option 1 is the best with the right speakers. Since most listening will be streaming , Option 2 does not make much sense.

About the sound signature, as @Lizard King said in an earlier in this post about the Marantz line " my take is that higher models are more linear and neutral whereas lower models tend to have V shaped presentation and more 'fun', if you may". ...this was also confirmed by Anil at Hifimart.

Also when I moved from Marantz to Denon the sound was much more neutral but I took care of that with a subwoofer and am quite satisfied for the time being. I quite like the slimline NR1200 but dont know if it would be worth the effort.
Thank you for sharing your experiences. I am in the same dilemma as every investment are supposed to bring some upgrades, I kind of want to have better stereo sound with the ability to stream. I was confused because I have heard the compromises companies done while putting everything to one box. I know YouTube videos can't be 100% accurate, however, all the demos of NR1200 there seemed not at par with the demos of pm6006/or even 5005 as far as sound quality is concerned. If the real world difference between NR1200 and PM5005/6006 is 20/30% then I would love to go with the NR1200.

Marantz PM6007 + Q 3030i is good match imo. 3030i have strong bass punch and smooth treble response with good amount of detail also nice vocal as its price. Just auditioned for a friend with 6006 amp and its quite impress me. I feel that enough bass to fill mid to small size room. wheres the concept 20 bookshelf have very laid back and lack of bass punch but in this catagory concept 20 need very good amount of amplification to shine. You can also cheack warfadale new 12.2 series bookshelf.. they are new upgraded version of 11.2. they are well reviewed.
Thank you. Thats really great to know. I am eyeing the 3030i as well. Do you think can they also be driven by the pm5005 as the difference between 5005 and 6007 is only 5 watts. Also will they be OK being placed only 1 ft from the rear wall?

Maranta NR 1200 and wharfedales are best combination as you think
I think I will go with the existing Pioneer FS52 speaker if I go for NR1200. I hope they will be suitable for each other.

the Fynes are lovely speakers..made by a breakaway group who left Tannoy during their movement to China. They have developed a wonderful driver based on the Tannoy dual concentric and are very well reviewed by all.

I would think they would have a far better sound than the pioneer and yes downgrading your amp requirement to the denon PM5005 is a very wise option over the other options (budget driven), since the speaker and the source are the top two components..

you right basically pm 5005 and 6 series has only 5 watt difference on paper but I persnally like the 6006 sound. Denon PmA600ne also a good option.. Fyne speaker are very sweet to my ears it has good mid range also. but not as strong in bass punch, the QA does. and fyne speaker need little bit better amplification imo..

Apologies in advance if this is not the right way of getting into the discussion.

Hi All,

Me and Gurujee are sailing in the same boat (almost) ... Planning to set up my 1st HiFi system. :):)

Spoken to the goto man - Anil (hifimart) and he recommended going for Wharfedale 11.2 and pick Marantz PM6007 or Denon PMA600/800NE to go with it.

My budget is 1lac +-10k (raised it after reading some of you on this portal).

Need some friendly expert advice based on
1- I have a 200 sqft room.
2- Most of my music will be streamed.
3- Not Planning to have a subwoofer to start with.
4- Fantasize to have floor-standing speakers.
5- Love listening to Gazals.

considering I pick one of Marantz PM6007 or Denon PMA600/800NE

can you guys please recommend a speaker to go with any of the above-mentioned amps.

Few I was thinking about - Wharfedale Dimond 12.3 / Polk S55 / Q Acoustics 3050I / Jamo Studio S809 or anything else in 70-75 range.

On a side note - Why is no one talking about Polk S55/60, I was interested coz of the base port which gives the advantage to keep it near the wall.

Thanks in advance.

My advice would be to future proof yourself by looking at mid fi or even hifi options rather than entry level. Look at used gear. You get once 2k usd worth gear for less than 1/4th today and will sound beautiful and keep you happier for longer and away from constantly upgrading. There are lot of people who specialise in resale of used gear. Even if amplifier you go for new is fine, speakers you can aim for better. There are some really good stuff in the resell market.

After some thoughts, I finally placed an order for Pm6007. I will add the Yamaha WXC50 to it and use that as streamer only. For the time being I will connect my FS52s with it and later after few months will replace them with Fyne301/302 or QAcoustic 3030i/3050i.

You can't go wrong with marantz wharefedal combo or marantz q acoustic. Since you are in to streaming , you may add a decent DAC streamer of your choice. Please don't forget to save money for decent cables and interconnects.
Cheers

Check Indiq Audio Universal Mishra(Also called custom LCR). A lot of FM have it.

If you can stretch your budget to 92, Indiq Platinum is current favorite of FMs.
Thanks for the suggestion .... Happy to see Make In India products getting so much praise.

Spoke to Amit today .... let's see how things turn up.

Hi gurujee, replacing pioneer fs52 with 301/302 or 3030i will not bring much improvement ,as fs52 holds very high proposition compare to the price, please keep tweaking new amp with pioneer. I had fs52, and they are absolutely brilliant for the money if fed with good High current Amp. Since u have already amp now, also try to get good source to get best out of it. Don't rush with the speakers , first try everything and then let it go.
Just my suggestion.
Nice to hear this..never knew pioneer made half decent speakers ..had put them for car audio and av amps only
Were you able to compare with some of the more renowned speakers ?

Wonder if they are the Andrew Jones version

Thank you. let’s see. I am still researching on the speakers. Guess this upgrade bug won’t let me leave without making poor.
i am also on the lookout for streamer and after much discussions on this forum fixed on Allo boss 2 player.U can also look at allo digione signature.Do have a look at these

@sandeeprao

I think you should definitely look at the Universal Mishra bookshelves as @Yogesh suggested. If at all you are willing stretch a bit then go with their Platinum Achal.
They both are really good and you will definitely enjoy. Both of them pair very well with the Marantz PM6007 or any amp for that matter. From my experience, these 2 speakers don’t need a lot of power to drive them.
They are very transparent and have a great sound stage. If you are up for Floor Standers and do not wish to spend more on the amp then you can go for Achal’s > Crown XLI 1500 > Topping E30 or Smsl SU9 Dac to start off and this will not disappoint you.
If you want to skip crown then , go with the Marantz and Universal Mishra or Marantz + Achal. Anyways here you will always have an option of upgrade even at a later stage.

The upgrade policy from IndiqAudio is great. Did you check with them on this ??

By the way, I think IndiqAudio is also the authorised dealer for Norge. They too have some good Amps. Especially the concerto gold. You could try that too. Achal >> Norge >> Topping or Smsl Dac.

Check that out too.

Som

hi. Thanks so much for this reply. I didn't go and buy the speakers for this reason. I thought why don't I test the speakers already have. If the sound after adding the amp is not expected, then I will go for new speakers. I hope the Fs52s can be driven without problem by the marantz amp.

Thank you for the suggestion. I was checking that thread of yours. Only problem is I don't know anything about the setup of that gadget. Not a techie. Will it come compiled and ready to run - kind of 'plug & play' ?

so its kind of plug and play in the sense that the os comes installed on the sd card but if you are not inclined towards playing/tinkering around then its totally safe to go with wx-c 50.music cast app is really gud.

hey Som u have really made me interested in lukng at indiq audio speakers.nxt time i plan to visit bangalore i will make sure to listen to them.i dont know if i will be able to spend for the platinum achals which i think are the best but atleast i will go for the bookshelves.

Received the amp and set it up with Pioneer FS52s. Currently using the SA Phoenix BT Adapter as could not order the WXC50 for the lockdown shipping issues at the dealer.

This is my first experience with an Integrated amp, hence I have nothing to compare, except with my previous AVR.

Out of the box - really impressed. Immediately can perceive the effortless openness of the vocals, the subtle smoothness of high frequency as I have read numerous times about the marantz. What dear FMs were saying was true. With proper amp, speakers do sing. I had no idea my FS52s had bass, because with AVR, set as Small and 80hz Crossover, bass in them was nonexistent. But with pm6007, I can somewhat manage these towers with whatever bass they are outputting now, without using a subwoofer. I guess, amps need burn-in time and I have heard they need 50 hrs to ideally open up. I will update once I achieve 50hrs burn in time.

Doubts - I have read pm5000/6000 series are suitable for bookshelf speakers, especially 2 way speakers, and with complex crossovers of 3way tower speakers, they won't perform optimally. Since, I am currently using them with Pioneer FS52s, which are power hungry as people say, the sound does not seem right. Loudness is not an issue as the volume on amp is around 9/10 position, it is still loud enough for my room. What I feel is, the silent part in tracks are not properly audible, when the normal part begins it is suddenly loud, and the loud part is like really loud. What I meant is the transition between low-high-mid frequency is not smooth or subtle. If the song is - let's say 'Casandra Wilson's Don't Explain' when it begins or being built up, I can't hear much but once the rhythm kicks in "bang". I observe this in mid way of tracks as well. I don't know it is a problem with the source, or burn-in, or my multi-driver-ed low sensitive power hungry towers. I tried to read and some says these amps may be not handling the multi crossovers of tower speakers properly, which is causing the uncontrollable output. I can assure such problem was not there when I was driving these towers with the AVR.

I am unable to integrate my wharfedale d10 sub with the amp. it has low-pass filter from 40-150. Pioneer has frequency range of 40 Hz-20 kHz
What should be the lowpass setting on the subwoofer?

Are two-way speakers really easy to drive ?
