I recently got Airtel HD installed a month back. The NGC - HD channel gives compressed images. The recently added Star Cricket HD is also pathetic in viewing. I just laugh out to my heart's content when i see squeezed images of all players.

The other issue with Airtel HD connection is, that the broadcast stops for about 5 to 6 seconds and then restarts. This happens every 3 to 4 hours interval. Very annoying to see the broadcast stop for 5-6 seconds when you are watching a movie or a cricket action. The engineers and the customer care executives find this to be a normal routine and not really a big issue.

Thankfully this was a complimentary set that i got with my Sony TV and i will discontinue after a couple of months and move back to my TATA SKY connection which was far better than Airtel.

That's not all - The customer service is pathetic. Both the customer care executives and the engineers are fraudsters. They lack basic knowledge.

Good bye Airtel.

I was wondering couple of days back on Sony showroom why are they offering Airtel HD so heavily with every BRAVIA purchased during the world cup. They said that although the STB and Dish is free they will still charge INR 1000 for the activation. Good that you have highlighted this. Will help me stay away from this.

AIRTEL is going a sinking ship way in India. There focus is Africa. As the saying goes, Dhobi kaa kutaa naa ghar kaa naa ghaat kaaa ! Believe me , i was a die hard airtel guy on cell/voice on LL/ADSL, but they have messed it up bigtime on customer service, reliabiltiy issues. Recently my IPTV (used as second coonnection) was down, they took 7 days to rectify !!!!! 7 days for a TV signal, think from this perpective!!!!!!

I did not get similar problem. In early few days, there was SW upgrading & there after no transmission problem.Scaling of SD is also good.
I am not happy with colours.I can see skin tone pinkish, not better than Dishtv SD.
I had to go for Airtel as my dish antena broke & Tatasy HD was out of market in December 2010.

Airtel is spoiling its reputation that's what i can say, even if we call to customer care they charge 50p/min for mobiles, afaik they dont seem to do any good for customers.

Hi Ric,
i had the same problem with airtel HD......5-6 sec pause and than normal.
I raised the complain and after 5-6 visits of their executive and one after one new complains.....as they close one after each visit......i got the replacement and the newer one did not ge paused......so plz raise this to CC and follow till they replace ur STB.

First & foremost the fact is that I was a loyal Airtel customer right from their mobile, landline, broadband & digital tv connections but over the last year or so my loyalty has changed

1. Airtel mobile services have taken a turn for the worst, everytime I call up with a complaint they say "SIR, THE SYSTEM IS GETTING UPDATED", they have also become very costly in their tariff as one fellow member pointed out about them charging 50p for CC

2. Their landline is another big letdown, they introduced a new term called FUP(Fair Usage Policy) which restricts my download limit for the huge amount they charge.I have also complained almost 10 times in the last year for frequent broadband disconnections.

3. About their DTH services, am glad that one member's connection prob was rectified in a week, for me they took almost 45 days :o

Now hearing the complaints about their HD service am just imagining how far worse AIRTEL is going to be in the coming years

that 50paise is for 3 mins and they confirm before connecting. they had to as it was TRAI directive that all customer calls would be charged, its same with any other provider. But Airtel do have a free no. also...i guess its 198...try it once.

FUP is again implemented by all the ISPs...even BSNL and MTNL...sad though

but airtel has actually started to take its customers for granted...

its their fav line that the system is being updated...

one of my fav: try calling 3-4 times CC for the same prob...and u will get multiple resolutions from their side...u mite even be denied any resolution but in the next call the guy will happily do what u want...strange...Sunil Bharti Mittal Aka Sunil 'Bahar'ti mittal or Sunil Africanti Mittal...

Alas we need more consumer rights to survive and get vfm...

closing tickets is a big fraud going within airtel to prevent customer issues from getting escalated. They won't fix a problem and just close the ticket. When u call again, a new ticket gets created.
Airtel never bothered for its customers.

mtnl does not hv a FUP ... does it make sense to put a cap on an unlimited connection?

ye after every visit they close the ticket and send a SMS/ call whether you are satisfied or not.........and with reply No....they ask for update and again raise a new complain and again their engr visits.................Run this into 5-6 iterations...........for a month and then a new STB comes out............:)

Yes, I can see airtel going down in India.

1. Mobile: Exorbitant data pricing for 3g services.
2. Airtel HD: The less said the better. Buffoonery at its best in the name of HD.
3. Broadband: 7 days to reactivate a connection! Surefire way to loose assured revenue and finally the customer.
4. Broadband connection transfer from City A to City B: 30days (Can you believe it? Also they assured I can retain my old number. But upon activation I was given a new number, CC said that it is a 'new' connection. Wow! Hats off!.

Result:
1. Mobile ported to BSNL. (This sarkari company rocks in terms of coverage and rates).
2. TV: Tata Sky - Excellent Customer Service.
3. Broadband: BSNL 3g hai mere liye! All india roaming free at 3g speeds through my Desire HD.

Life sorted by keeping Airtel out.

Thanks Prash. Thats helpful. Now i know where the problem is. Will pursue with Customer Care. But i am sure they will not understand what i am talking about. You are lucky to have conveyed your message and got the problem rectified in 6 visits. Here there have already been 5 visits and after each visit the engineer disappears and a new engineer comes and i have to re-explain everything. Its so irritating. Almost equivalent to customer harrassment.
