All the speakers I made - suri

Hi,

You are most welcome Suri,Glad was able to be of some assistance :)!!

Suri just one thing I'd like to tell, why are doing the prototype in Silver ?? its just for the rough idea of how the design will workout how it will have to be done etc etc right ? get it done in normal metal and see if it fits the bill (in every and any which way you'd want it to ),If all's well with the design and such then get it done in Silver, else unnecessary waste of money of the silver !! Today at close 22K (or so as of this post) its not cheap to play around for proto's at least not for me :p !!

Another thing Am sure you may have already known is, the Pure Silver is bit soft and for the said application it'd be better to add some other strong metal to give the overall hardness required for purpose !

Another thing is,if its ok with you I'd like to checkout the design and also probably with your permission would like to use it in my own designs if its as good as you say it would be !! Although I may not be able to get it Silver as you but would like to try for sure !

Regards.

hi soundsgreat,

apparently, he will be making the prototype - showing it to me - once approved will use the same piece for final touches and modifications-

the specification calls for creating a tube and a male and female metal plate (twist lockable) - and since pure silver is malleable, he said it would be easy to work with- the actual areas where strength is required silver alloy will be used (at the neck and the fixing points) but the conduction path will be pure silver.

i am quite excited about the design because i believe it eliminates (two) unnecessary junctions (at the, say, WBT binding posts), and allows for direct connection between the two wires - and also allows for gas-tight connection between them - i will post pictures as soon as i get them in my hand - any alterations - please suggest and it can be done.

if you like it, i would be happy if you used the design for your projects!

Fellow friends - not a picture but the package arrived as I paid a huge sum in "express shipping".

Yes - they competed side-by-side and head-to-head against the mighty $ 24,000 B&W 800D in the following manner:

Accuphase Transport/DAC --> FM Acoustics Pre --> 1st set of outputs to Sym-Line Kraft 400 Monos --> B&W 800D
FM Acoustics Pre --> 2nd set of outputs to Sym-Line Kraft 300 Stereo --> B&W Matrix 801

But the 23 year old aged Matrix 801 Series-2 at $ 6,000 won for me - conveying 'gobs of emotion with genuine deep, authentic mid-bass' and overall is such a satisfying speaker - in the process am soon to pack-up the 800D! The absence of the Diamond tweeter wasn't even felt.

Hence, the Avatar changed!! :)

The 800D will soon be on its way to pack-up! But before I get to do that, will once power them up on Horizontal bi-amping mode (using Kraft 400 Monos for LF & Kraft 300 for Mid/HF) just to enjoy balls-to-the-wall dynamics for a few albums esp. MoFi ver of The Wall - Pink Floyd / ToTo IV, etc!!

hi audio_engr,
that was fantastically fast - they reached you in 5 days? - you must have paid a huge amount!!!

But the 23 year old aged Matrix 801 Series-2 at $ 6,000 won for me

so, this proves your thesis that, in the interim years, bowers and wilkins have been traipsing down the wrong alley!

USED THE FINEST BLACK FELT - STEINWAY FELT (WELL, OK, THE BEST FELT AVAILABLE IN OUR SUB-CONTINENT - JHANJI PROBABLY SUPPLIES STEINWAY ANYWAYS!)

EDIT - those brass resonators will be painted (automotive) midnight blue (as audio_engr suggested) and will closely match the black felt.

Nice work Suri. So how are the grill and binding posts coming about?
When is the inaugration? And when should I come for a listening session?

Audio engr,
I know, I know! I ve been a postponing my trip to Suri's place just so that I can watch these babies in action!
How much burn in do these Revelators require?

They look awesome Suri!! All those coats of lacquer and your patience has really paid off. What brass resonators are you talking about in the picture? The bass port [squarish in picture] or the beading kind of thingy on the border?

brass resonators = beading kind of thingy!

the idea in my mind is - any residual energy is converted by those brass half-rounds into heat and dissipated - miniscule, yes, but that idea will not go away - they are mounted on the surface with high-tensile SS springs pushing against them - creating, i think, a system able to absorb energy in the range 250 hz to 1000 hz -

i will post pictures of the assembly (springs and brass)

Hi Suri :

Now that the cabinets are nearing completion, I am NOT SURE how it would look to paint the brass midnight blue. I feel that color will clash with the beautiful, rich Sonus-Faber look varnished cabinets and the black felt.

Think about it..... seriously! Certainly not a good choice IMO !

regards

well, audio_engr - the brass is not painted yet - what is your suggestion? - the colour palette to make a choice from is DUCO.

hi rallynut,

had a wonderful day listening to your well-integrated system - it was a pleasure!!:)

and the ICE? - the little time i had to listen - absolutely clean - though, i must admit, i have not followed ICE and it's loudspeaker design with much passion - i could see a pioneer head unit and tweeters but i did not ask about other components - very clean and listenable - unlike some ICE i have heard (which made the ears bleed!).

thanks a lot for the hospitality - your mother was the epitome of kindness!!

thanks a lot for the Bose 4" drivers - i will endeavor to make something for you (which, perhaps, your grandchildren might enjoy!!).

you asked me a few questions - here are pictorial answers -

@ audio_engr,

mr. ramakrishnan was very dismissive about expensive cabling - but since he was mostly into pro-audio, i did not know what to think at that time.

the colour - i finally chose today - and it is "panther black" of DUCO with clear coat - and perhaps, may suit the black felt that the brass rods will surround.
