All the speakers I made - suri

Suri Congratulations ! Hope these speakers give you long lasting listening pleasure.

Was these deliberate to reduce resonance ?

Regards

hi hitensitapara - thanks-

ever since i read about the arrakis loudspeaker made by rockport technologies (Andy Payor) - i have thought about the possibility of a DIY "inertial reference" cabinet - of course these are transmission line (tapered quarter wave), and not ported-

the construction (and therefore, weight) was deliberate to achieve this end.

Hello Suri,

Many many hearty congratulations! I have to confess that your DIY thread was one of the reasons (which I stumbled upon while looking for information on HDTVs), along with the enormous a/v knowledge base found here) that hooked me on to hifivision:)

I, possibly like many others felt being a part of your WOE project (albeit virtually!) simply by following your DIY thread quite closely and now am really glad to know that your WOEs have started singing!

Do let us know how it sounds. Kerala being my favorite "road trip" state, I do hope to make a trip to Kannur and hear your WOEs!!

Congratulations again and happy working the magic with the witches!

Woah ! I know zilch about the art of making speakers, but those surely look uber cool ! Are your kids like forever tripping on these beauties or what, Suri sir ?! Darn, simply brilliant.

Suri, I am sure they also sound wonderful.Anil

hi anilva,

difficult to say - they are not offensive anyway!:)

but i must seriously think of serious measurements - i have been pushing this matter under the carpet for too long - after all, if something is wrong somewhere - good measurements should reveal the defect and give direction re the solution.

hi alcy,
TFTC!

no children at home (away studying) - but wife and three boisterous dogs (compete to) trip on the speaker cables!

wife has taken a flying toss - but kind enough not to eject me and my speakers to a dark corner of home!

in the evenings, when wife and i get back - the dogs start their games and fun and ritual "kushti" - three of them, engaged in mock fights (with terrific sound effects) roll all over - disrupting cables and threatening speakers with destruction - the "witches of ecstasy" will, hopefully, survive their attentions!

Hi Suri,

Hearty Congratulations. They look lovely. Do post your review. We all would love to hear from you.

May be sometime I'll visit Kannur to see them in flesh & blood, err wood & laquer.:D

hi captrajesh,

here is the review - (and honestly, this is all i can say)

To a crow mother- it's baby must look beautiful and sound beautiful - one can imagine the mama crow's heart swelling with maternal pride when she feeds those ugly buggers! (and a small tear at the corner of her eye for her success in the whole scheme of things).

Well ..........

He he! Remember those scenes well! But I do think your dogs have an excellent sense of responsibility when it comes to speakers and wires and your wife has even better patience for tolerating all the madness!
Happy Easter!

So you are changing the adage to "familiarity breeds aversion"

I think I need to add here, a butterfly is always born ugly but transforms to a beautiful creature that everyone covets.:)

Keep on with your good work.

Hmm thanks Suri, I'm limping back to normalcy. Lime juice with salt? Never knew that. Now I know why Kerala is called Ayurvedic Capital of the world.

Will try that Suri. Thank you.

Hi Suri

What a great pleasure to see your creations "finally in the room" assembled and up - ready for action.
Many, many heartfelt congratulations for the months & months of hard work, hours of research & discussion, torturous moments with the wife et all.. LOL !! :clapping: :clapping:

But after some scrutiny, I have a question for you?
Why is the absolute symmetry of the tweeter not centered?

s1hult.jpg

hi audio_engr - i missed this post of yours.

amazingly - the tech person i was talking to at Madisound suggested ( i sent detailed diagrams of the speaker) that i locate the tweeters off-center to smoothen out the on-axis response (reduce the ripples, he said) - and i did not want to do this -

after reading your post - i measured the location of the tweeter and it is off-center by two centimeters! - i have now positioned the right and left speakers so that the tweeters are "inside"

regds

but if you mean the screws - why are the screws holding the faceplate of the tweeter not aligned in perfect symmetry with the screws of the woofer? - well that was a stupid mistake - i will post a picture later and you will understand!

the W.O.E. have been doing duty for about a week now - there are some things better than the W.O.S. - and some problem area -

i will ask rallynut and iaudio to come over (please?) and tell me what they think are the problem areas - and work on them - i think i am sure that they can be ironed out:)

will come over suri, asap.as for perceived problems (if any),am not the best judge,my ears are still ringing with the melody of ur earlier iterations ;).suffice it to say,am sure these are goin to be far better!!!cheers
