Folks, need help buying an Amplifier for my DIY Floor-standers. The drivers are from Eton Gmbh, consists of 8" Woofer and 2.5" Silk Dome tweeters. The design and specs can be found here, Woofer, Tweeters.

Currently, the speakers are powered by Norge 1000 (RIP Mr. Bajaj). They were intended to be a stop-gap solution that dragged on for 7 years.

With Norge, the result is musical, though I must say it lacks low end grunt and the base could be tighter. While playing, I always get the sense that the speakers are restrained by what Norge has to offer.

My source consists of FLAC & AIF files played through Raspberry Pi + Pi-DAC+ powered by iPower.

The drivers can be seen in action in this youtube video (not mine).

I don't have a budget yet, and I am open to used gear.

Would love to hear your suggestions. Thanks.

just curious - why not try modding the norge - it has lots of potential, and you seem to be someone who is not averse to DIY

from the threads, it seems a recap/upgrade of the PSU and a swap of the preamp board should help

This was exactly my first instinct and had gone through the thread in detail previously. I am handy with the soldering iron and I understand loudspeakers, but am naive when it comes to amplifiers. Did some googling and it seems like I would need to import Nichicons and Burr Browns. With the current work load and family, it would be tough for me to find enough time to do a good job of the project.

Now, I do have access to Ganesh (from Norge), so if I could find the parts locally I might be able to get them upgraded or it could be a project for a latter date.

Hope that makes sense, your suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

sourcing the caps shouldnt be too hard

swapping the PSU caps should be fairly straightforward, and should give the maximum improvement

next the diodes

If i were you, i would swap out all those crappy stock samwha electrolytics in the amp with some very nice electrolytics/ and those green polyesters wuth some wima etc film caps (whatever is in the signal path) first before trying to upgrade it or even before you touch the op amps.

Thank you, did not know of diyaudiocart.

Unfortunately, I am finding it difficult to source Nichicon 10000 uF, 50 V caps, diyaudiocart do not have them in stock. Any other Indian site you can point me to? I could find them on mouser.com & digikey.com but the shipping itself works out to be half the cost of all components + duties.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
