This morning, as usual, while giving a wash to my Benz with a wet 'kapda' and bucketful of H2O,

I remember Mallika Sherawat giving carwash in some online video - I dunno why your statement reminded me that ( and certain car wash videoed published by a magazine meant for playing boys!)

BTW imagining you giving carwash in the same way will give sure shot heart attack to your neighbors!!!:cool::rolleyes::ohyeah:

Hemant bhai, You must have been given that idea by Avid's use of the term 'wet kapda'! :P He meant that he was washing the car with a wet cloth rather than his clothes being wet! :)
Enough of this, lets get back to discussing speakers! Poor Blasto is struggling with disturbing mental imagery! :D

Wow Benz, suarly u r man of taste ( and fat wallet!) , which model? Year?

hmmm ... my philosophy is a bit different ... what is the point in investing on something which .... would have its fair share of heat, dust, rain, abuse ... as it would remain parked in the open? From today's context spending upwards of 5L for a mode of transit, even if I may afford it, is a no-go. It is just a matter of moving from Point A to B .... so, some compromises can be made. Moreover, how long do you think that machine would remain a virgin in today's road conditions? One is bound to be presented with nicks, dents, scratches in less than a year's time! And, even today the value of a non-virgin takes a major dent in our MCP minds!

So, a lot better to put your money into something which can 'always' be parked inside the safe environs of your home, IMHO.

@ Hemant ..... one track mind, eh? Why don't ya accompany me during one of ma visits to your domain? Believe me, therez nothing more relishing than ..... !!! Obviously, some risks have to be taken ... HATE Dhoble for it!

It has a name & model no, its called Krypton K300TL.

Kindly read the owners (avidyarthy's) signature, where it is clearly mentioned.

Asking out of curiosity. Do the speakers have a vent? I can't see it in any of the pics.

My PMC ATL's have a large vent.

Its a down-firing design. A large vent with speaker-cover is present. Can't see in the pics. A gap of 2" by means of the studs is present at the bottom.

Which PMC model do you possess? The BS or FS .... vent on the front-bottom, I think.

I have DB1i the entry level book shelf from PMC i series. Its the home/consumer version of the PMC studio speakers you listened to at the Mumbai meet. It has a 5.5" bass driver and the tweeter is same through out the i series.

As per ravi_d's signature, he has the DB1i's, the same ones we heard @ the mumbai meet. Those are ported at the top on the rear side of the cabinet.

IIRC, they cost about 1.2l in mumbai.

Edit: Ravi beat me to it :D

In the case of the bottom-firing ports doesn't the gap between the port and the floor form part of the port?

In a TL its not a port but a terminus and the cross-section area is large enough to cause any interference with the floor. Also the damping inside the line does not cause large movement of air like the one you will experience in a vented enclosure. The distance is over 3" and hence should not cause any interference. If any interference is found then it should only help due to mass-loading and in any case the back pressure will not reach the woofer due to the damping of the line.

This is ATL BS design, how does it sound compare to Towers?

The PMC is not a exo-linear design but a classic straight line TL. The driver is off-set from the closed end. The line may be tuned some what higher than the resonating frequency of the driver to reduce line length. The terminus area in the open-end is larger than the line area in the closed-end.

The damping of the line is done by an egg-foam type of material and some mid-range emerged from the terminus when i heard Bagwans PMCs.

In my tower ATLs the mid-range is completely damped and only low frequency lower than the 3rd harmonic can be felt from the terminus.

Only an apples to apples blind test can tell which sounds better.
