Hi all,

I have a couple of 32-0-32 volts @ 4 Amp trafos lying around at home.

So I thought of building an amp which can use them. Any schematics for something like this? I haven't searched on the net, maybe there are some amps out there. In terms of audio quality, the most important thing is CLEAN and BALANCED sound. We need to hear the little things!

I was thinking to build a set of mono block amplifiers, not too fancy but nice enough for my Dynaudio Audience 42W speakers. Can someone help me point out some amplifier designs? Think I can handle a build completely from scratch.
Regarding the power supply, with a rectifier and a 4* 10000MFD capacitor bank I get +/- 45VDC. So what is a wise decision? I estimate, with this supply you should get around 150 watts.

Thanks In Advance

I am not expert on DIY amps but will add what I have read recently.

1. P3A: Rod Elliott's design which is open for anyone to build. There is a long thread in diyaudio with modifications mentioned. You can create your own layout and etch the boards.

2. SKA-GB150D: The designer recently published the schematic. There are certain modifications mentioned but I haven't read about them.

3. LC's VSSA with BJT output: Lazy Cat made VSSA with lateral MOSFET as output device. Some folks modified it with BJT output's and this is supposed to be very good too.

All the above amplifiers have very good reviews. You can search more and get respective threads on diyaudio.

Thanks

LM3886.... maybe cheap and good ...... or you can contact fm shaan ... he has the modified version vssa amp mentioned in a post in this thread earlier...

P3A is a great sounding amp. But @45V supplies, I doubt its reliability. My sujjestion is a symmetrical design with a lateral MOSFET output. One of Watt Slone designs wud be a good idea. I built one some time ago, which gave exellent performance. soft copy is in my old HDD. I shall post it soon.

Is the supply +/- 45VDC?

Sorry, it is Randy Slone. It was a long time. find the schematic and pcb in the attachments. The PCB files are bigger in size than allowed. I shall convert it and upload later.

Hi hydrovac,

attached is the schematic and pic of the amp which I am currently building. I have some PCB's to spare. but it uses 4 output pairs which would be an overkill for your +/-45V supply. I could downsize this amp for your needs and redesign the PCB.
with your supply 2 output pairs would be enough and you would get ~80-90W into 8 ohms.

Regards,
Aniket
