Do any of you use a projector as the TV in the living room?
If so what one do you use, and how often are you changing bulbs?

My relative is planning to change his old 32" LCD TV. Instead of going for a 50" or above TV (which would cost Rs 50000 above), is it a good idea to use a projector like "Acer H5370BD" (cost around Rs 30000).
(Pls exclude audio part, he is already got a good stereo setup.)

Its not a good idea to use projector for watching TV, but it's the best choice while watching movies.
Why is this so?
1) Projector requires darkness (depends upon lumens) but still in light pictures get washed out unless you get some hi end black diamond types screen.
2) Often switching on/off hurts PJ blub in very bad way. Its better to keep it on the whole day if you want to take small breaks.
3)Bigger the screen, more bad will be sd signal look (from cable)
4)requires cleaning of filters and lens if used heavily.
Its better to restrict cable for TV and use PJ for movies and few events like cricket finals or tennis.

If you have very deep packets to change the projector lamp (Non LED) & Filter (non DLP)
more frequently, You can use them as TV in living room with more lumens & very high power (Gain) screens.

Overall Projectors can not be used as TV. And vice versa, TV can not be used as projector (size does matter):)

Only for special TV programs and movies can be watched on projector.
And ofcourse can be used for playing video games.

Thanks folks for your inputs.
From my understanding his usage is going to be very limited. He is NRI, comes home once in 4 months for 2 or 3 weeks. Anyways I will pass on these inputs.
