I plan to be in Ahmadabad for 10 + days.
2nd to 12th [Jan 2016]
This is for an Indian Classical Concert Festival.
I was hopeful to meet up with some Audiophiles during my stay.
I shall be free on all days up to 1900 hours.

Just saw your post now. Am based in Ahmedabad - but was travelling during the late Dec/early Jan period. Do let me know in case you plan another trip to Ahmedabad anytime soon.

I have a complete Enbee setup (amp, pre-amp & speakers) that I have been using for the past 7 years with a Marantz CDP and a Technics turntable. Around 100 LPs and 500 odd CDs complete my music collection. I listen mostly to Blues, Jazz, Soul, R&B and a lot of 70's music (Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Led Zep etc)

Yes that is the hidden fact 90% of the people including me from the beginning stages thought an Audiophile means very expensive gear all around.
But it was not. A person who relax and enjoys his music library in a dedicated room or in his favorite headphone which put a big smile on his face and forget everything just music music all over can be called an an "Audiophile". ???

People who have money and not satisfied with themselves, keep changing their gear. They are trying to vent sometimes their expression, ambitions ( in terms of personal and professional) pursuit of excellent gear. Any imbalance in personal or professional or mood may change definition of Audiophile accordingly for individuals,so one can be happy with 100rs headphones and 160rs Chinese fm set or Any avr or else in search of that perfection in the name of reference series speakers and gold plated terminal and costly dac search is never ending. Some times original singers and those playing instruments are happy with live performance, but some audiophile still find out imperfections in hall or speakers, rather than enjoying concert. Finally its about satisfying self and in terms of Speakers and avr it is proportional to money you are ready to spend.

Gentlemen this was a thread I started in Jan since I was to go to Ahmedabad for 12 days of Music @ Saptak.
The Concerts were between 2000 & 0200 hours.
I was to have the full day free.
Therefore I had asked if there were any audio set ups I could listen to.
It has / had nothing to do with a person spending money on audio or any other thing.
We could all be music lovers.
That is great.
An audiophile is just a music lover that likes to listen to the recorded music in as close to the real thing as possible - that is all.
Now if he spends 1000/- on it or 1,00,000/- on it or 1,00,00,000/- on it - does it matter ? We are not going to buy if off that person, we just want to experience it - that's all.
Its like going to a museum - just go - appreciate what is there - we don't need to get it all back to our house....
I had a very simple request - it may have been mis understood.
If I have ruffled any feathers - I am sorry & I deeply apologize.
Enjoy life - Listen to music - Spread the Joy !

Audiophiles are a subset of the above group. They are enthusiastic about hi fidelity reproduction of music in their life. Enthusiastic and hi fidelity are the key words here. There are varying levels of audiophile interest and explorations depending upon their level of interest and priorities.

If a person is not enthusiastic about exploring and figuring out the best possible hi fidelity solution for themselves depending upon their inclinations and priorities, then I wouldnt call them audiophiles. I know I am being blunt here, but that is the truth folks.

There are of course closet audiophiles who listen to music on compromised setups for the sake of harmony of various kinds.

Sorry bhagwan for hijacking your thread.Just wanted to know various view point regards the term "Audiophile".

Finally there is only one definition I can find that is a person who listen to music with his setup.Here the important factor is he is making some time to listen to his favorite tracks.The setup may be expensive or less expensive it depends on the budget of individual persons.But the main fact is he is very keen to his listening environment in which he need to get all details on the music without any loss to enjoy till end of the track.

Well aware this is a really old post, but any chance you are still up for this? I have never ever heard great speakers in person and have no idea what to look for when buying and need someone to educate and listen with. Thanks!
