Audition- Mumbai- MA, PSB, Quad, B&W, Paradigm

Hi,

I auditioned bookshelves and towers in Mumbai over last 2 days. I am still deciding between bookshelves and towers.

Bookshelves (Cambridge Audio Amp)

1. Quad 11L - 35k
2. Tannoy DC-6 - 40k
3. Paradigm mini monitors - 32k
4. Monitor Audio - RX2 -55k
5. Monitor Audio BX2 - 32k
6. B&W 685- 49k
7. PSB Image B6- 27k

Towers

1. Monitor Audio RX6 - 77k
2. PSB Image T6 - 77k
3. B&W 684- 90k


I have shortlisted Moitor Audio and PSB's for both types (unable to decide). Which AV receiver which goes well for MA's and PSB.

would like to hear your impressions on tower vs bs. Also between different brands.

I was initially looking to buy bookshelves only, but after listening to towers felt the sound is much more complete and there is a substantial difference when compared with the bookshelves.

As I said in both the categories i have shortlisted MA & PSB's, both of them had a much punchier sound output then others.

Have heard marantz 7005 goes well with MA rx6 but that combination is very exp, which are other receivers can I go for as a cheaper option. How does a pioneer 1121k do with MA ?

I would like to suggest the new Aventage series from Yamaha. The RXA 710 should be for around 30k, RXA 810 for 40k, RXA 1000 for 50k.

The MA RX6 shdnt cost more than 70k at most.

Just saw specs for RXA 710 provides 90W per channel @ 8 ohms isn't it a bit under powered for MA RX6 (6 ohms). Also how do the Yamaha pair with the MA's ? Are you sure RX A710 is 30k in India ?

I had heard RX 6 a while back with Yamaha 671 and was impressed so my logic is that the Aventage series is a step up from the V series and it should sound even better. The Yamaha was very neutral and the RX6's bass output was quite detailed without losing the 'punch'.

While I was in the process of buying my equipment I was collecting quotes from everywhere and if I remember correctly the 710 was in the range of 30-32k in Mumbai. It has been over six months now so I wouldn't know the exact going rate.

I am seriously considering the MA RX8 and Paradigm Studio 100 (along with the Focla 836V) for one room as well as the MA GX300 and Tannoy Definition DC8T (along with the KEF R900) for another room.

Alliance4,Goregaon has Tannoy & Paradigm.

Correct, I auditioned them at Alliance 4. Any idea what are grey market rates for MA RX6 ?

MA RX6 was for 70k with bill and warranty. Not sure how much lesser would it come down to without papers.
