I play the audio files using a media player connected via HDMI cable to the receiver..... No matter what audio file I play mp3 or flac...I lose about 1-2 seconds of the beginning....For example, if I play Eminem's - I am not afraid..instead of the song starting with the words.."I am not afraid"...I hear..."not afraid"...I dont hear the .."I am" part.. Its not a problem with the source file coz it plays normally on the laptop...

It is the usual case or can I correct it ?

Well with Airtel HD,I can see that STB starts 1st & after 3sec I can see Display with audio & it may depends on the receiver device(AVR/TV...)

But that only happens when the STB is powered up for the first time. In my case it happens at the start of each and every song ..Can you tell me whether it happens for each and every song that you play ?

Can anybody with an Onkyo 3300 receiver (I am sure there are many here) let me know if they have faced the same issue ?

have you tried crossfading between songs, one where the next song starts before other one ends? that option is available in almost all media players, if that does not drop audio, then your cable is good. any ways there is no way a HDMI connection will miss data only at the start of songs. HDMI is digital. so either you get sound or you dont.
on the other hand, it can be your source also. What are you using as a source? it is possible that your PC may be not powerful enough, so at the start it misses a few seconds and then catches up.

This is not an issue. This is even written in the faq section of 3300 manual. Refer to page 48. Here are the exact words :

The beginning of audio received by an HDMI IN
cant be heard

Since it takes longer to identify the format of an
HDMI signal than it does for other digital audio signals,
audio output may not start immediately

Funny thing is when I play the song using the PS3, it plays fine. Its only when using the Asus HD2 OPlay that I face the issue...Can more people on this forum confirm this is how the Onkyo receiver works ?

This seems to be an issue with your media player.

If available, you can try setting the audio output sample rate to a fixed value in place of auto from your media player's settings menu. I would also suggest connecting a analog rca cable to your media player's audio output port to see if this is a hdmi specific issue or if this has something to do with your media player.

Okay here is the thing....

Media Player connected to TV's HDMI - No delay
PS3 connected to Onkyo - No delay
But, Media Player connected to Onkyo - Delay is noticed..

And I am playing the same audio file..

Will a thicker HDMI cable be of any help ? And for carrying 2 channel flac audio is an analog rca cable good enough ?
