Best ever deal for loudspeaker kits.

@Miroflex $100 may be reasonable in USA but not in India. Secondly we are not designing any cabinets but only using ready made box plans freely downloadable from GR Research. Since u dont seem to like boxiness in spkrs you may think of Open baffle kits avl with Danny

From Sunit at Peerless:

Thanks for the info Danny. I have already forwarded it to our agents and they will come up with their quotes by Mon-Tue.

Enjoy your weekend,
Best,

Captain,

Have we decided the port of arrival in India? Wont the quote from the agents depend on the port of arrival in India. I thought someone else mentioned that shipping to Mumbai may be cheaper than getting it shipped to Chennai.

So, we should all take a collective call on port of arrival and finalize that.

Thanks

i dont know how many of you are aware of the fact that getting goods by sea is extremely cheap ( i mean the shipping charges ) . The shipping cost of upto 1000 kgs of material occupying space of upto 1 cubic meter from china to india is just 50 USD

I am not an expert in sea freight - depending on the volumetric weight sea freight can be really cheap, BUT - there are port charges, documentation fees, landing charges (i think they are called something else), blah blah which just blows up the entire cost. Please do not be prepared for something that low, otherwise you are in for major disappointment

cheers

Danny's Peerless associate has promised to get us a quote and let's wait for that. I'll also check out other options. I had put a poser on Port of arrival sometime back and suggested Chennai as many members are from south and some members have agreed upon that. AFAIK, Sea freight to Mumbai and Chennai are not likely to differ significantly as much as local courier charges would. Hence, port of arrival must be in the interest of maximum members IMHO. I'm also of the opinion that reacting to speculation and hearsay would only lead us on a wild goose chase.

I urge all participants to post their inputs on this aspect.

I had recom the x-static pr for FM harsh from kolkata. Hope he got in touch with you.

Harsh has sent me a PM for Encore kit and Sonicap upgrade and I suggested him to post his interest in the thread. Awaiting his response.

As the lead on this project, I suggest you decide what works best for you. Local members can easily work out the logistics of getting the components across to their location by the most convenient method, the real hurdle is to get it across to India, efficiently.

I agree. I don't think local courier is an issue, but customs clearance is,hence i feell chennai is best bet

i do agree with georgeO

captain rajesh we can import it to a place where we have someone to help in clearance of customs as that seems to be the biggest hurdle and can kill the deal.

Captain,
I was talking to a friend who is in the know. What he says is that we will need to engage an agent who will do all the port and customs clearances . Basically, there will be port charges and custom charges which will hv to be paid . Beside this, if it comes in containers, there will be some more charges like opening etc ..( very small ) So we just pay the agent and he gets all our work done .
Also, I asked him about whether to take one invoice for the entire consignment or take multiple invoices individually. What he was saying is that generally, as the value goes up, other charges go up. And he was also saying that if we get individual invoices, you may even end up not paying any customs ..He said it is dependent of case to case basis ...We hv to see the customs rules ..
I used to know some people in SIC chennai ..They are shipping and clearing agents ..Let me see if they are still around .

Pl include me for "Sonicap Upgrades "
Any word on whether the price of ckd has been reduced ?

a small update ...was just talking to the guy in SIC .
1) They do clearance only if we have an IE code ...that is for companies who import ...Since we dont, he said he will try to find out from his friends who clear for private goods ...
2) I asked him in case we manage to get the invoice made on someone who has an IE code, these were the charges he was roughly telling ....
a) labour at CFS(Container freight station) - ~ 1800
b) Liner agent - DO Charges --- depends
c) Customs charges
d) their charges - ~1500 .
3) It takes generally 3 to 5 days for container to reach CFS from port once vessel is berthed.
4) There is congestion now in chennai port --- vessels are taking 1 week to get berth.

I also asked him about the custom charges ..He asked me to give details by mail . Once I get a reply, will revert.
Meanwhile, captain, can u talk to Marc and see if because am sure they import drivers for making their speakers ...

Yes Import Export code number is needed for commercial transactions, but since this is for individuals, there should be a workaround, without asking someone else if it can be billed on his name. Ideally someone in Madras who knows a customs clearing and forwarding agent there( who can also be engaged to handle the job for the group buy) will find it educational to talk to him and find out the best way forward.

In case no one knows an agent, let me know, I will ask a friend in Madras who runs a leather goods export company to talk to his agent and ask if he can handle it.

It's well worth getting some clarity on this before hand.

There is no need to quote that in case of individuals ..But this particular guy to whom I talked does C&F only for companies ...Also probably the formalities will be different in case of individuals ...

Ok guys I checked with my friend who is the GM of an MNC freight forwarding company. He too said that one needs a IE code & need to go through an agent. He suggested us to generate invoices individually to minimise customs & suggested deferred shipping to prevent customs from suspecting foul play. Though they deal with only corporates, he was willing to take up the work. He asked to send him the details by mail.

No one can import without the import export license for further information plz chk out the DGFT website.
According to me these are the steps you should follow
1. Find an importer having a valid IE license
He should charge you about 10% of the billing amount
2. The money from everyone who is in this group buy should be sent to the importer
3. The importer should then send a PO to Danny and the money should be sent to Danny by the importer.
4. The importers have a freight agency account, if this shipment is an FOB shipment, the freight and other charges can be checked with the freight agents for this shipment the freight could be anything up to a $100 (this could be less or a bit more)
Along with the freight there would be a few other duties and charges that are not much.
5.FOB shipments are preffered over CIF because these are a bit cheaper.
6. Once the shipment arrives a custom's Clarence agent has to be appointed, now please pay attension these agents charge on per invoice basis and they should charge anything like 5000 to 7000 bucks .
7. And then comes our customs department well I cannot say anything for them.
8. Other charges to be paid by you will be Customs duty + container unloading charges ( not much) + warehouse charges (daily basis till ur shipment is not cleared) .
9. Local in city freight to carry the shipment from the container depot to any one persons house
That's it.
