No one can import without the import export license for further information plz chk out the DGFT website.
According to me these are the steps you should follow
1. Find an importer having a valid IE license
He should charge you about 10% of the billing amount
2. The money from everyone who is in this group buy should be sent to the importer
3. The importer should then send a PO to Danny and the money should be sent to Danny by the importer.
4. The importers have a freight agency account, if this shipment is an FOB shipment, the freight and other charges can be checked with the freight agents for this shipment the freight could be anything up to a $100 (this could be less or a bit more)
Along with the freight there would be a few other duties and charges that are not much.
5.FOB shipments are preffered over CIF because these are a bit cheaper.
6. Once the shipment arrives a custom's Clarence agent has to be appointed, now please pay attension these agents charge on per invoice basis and they should charge anything like 5000 to 7000 bucks .
7. And then comes our customs department well I cannot say anything for them.
8. Other charges to be paid by you will be Customs duty + container unloading charges ( not much) + warehouse charges (daily basis till ur shipment is not cleared) .
9. Local in city freight to carry the shipment from the container depot to any one persons house
That's it.

I dont agree-for individuals there is no need g to get an IE code number. I know from personal experience that individuals can import stuff for personal use shipped through India Post or courier without IE code numbers. As I suggested earlier, consulting an agent who does these things, and understanding the procedures is essential before pulling the trigger on this deal.

I have not dropped any bomb this was the process I followed till my company didn't had the import license and now that I have a valid license we follow a different process.
There are no doubts that there are a lot of ways to import things some ways follow the rule and some not.
Any importer who imports stuff from abroad will agree to what I have posted .
But I want to let you guys know that there are ways to get stuff from abroad and I am posting here as per my knowledge .we import stuff in order to sell it in India and you ppl are importing for your own use , the IE code is demanded by the customs department when the quantity of stuff imported exceeds a certain number,like a person can't import 200 speakers and define the purpose as personal use. IE code is not required for anything when the quantity is less

I dont think there are many options for us here , if we import individually we will end up paying huge money for freight and still will have to run around and deal with customs, the items are too heavy to bring in a checkin bag as well

It can be done in the following way. Each individual's items can be treated as a House bill addressed to each individual and the entire consignment will become a Master bill as far as the Agent is concerned. I am sure Captain's contact at the MNC would be advising the right method. Basically what this means is we individually ask the Agent to get it for us, but the agent consider it as one shipment and accordingly does his documentation. Once it reaches Chennai, the agent then clears the customs as individual packages. My 2 cents
