As per the information forwarded to the participants, the pallets have reached the container terminus. The Additional Commissioner concerned who gave us the permission was on leave and would be apparently required to clear our shipment.
I have made payment to the shipping agent who would be filing the 'Bill of Lading'

Hi Captain, Do we end up paying charges everyday the shipment is waiting in the terminus for clearing?
There will be some grace period after which, it is levied I guess.
Here is the latest update. As intimated before, the shipment is lying in CCTL as the officials wanted the letter which was a few months old, revalidated. The Addl. Commissioner of Customs was on leave for 4 days and apparently reported back for duty on Friday afternoon. A representative of our shipping agent met him with his permission letter. He was apparently irritated and had told him curtly that he can't give fresh permission and was not prepared to listen to the rep who was trying to explain the reasons for the delay. Unfortunately I was in Cochin for some official work.
The representative got an appointment for me to meet the Commissioner at 2:30 P.M. I had met him and explained that the delay was on account of making payments, and that we took a lot of time and effort to arrange for a freight forwarding company to pick up our LCL (Less than Container Load) cargo. He was kind enough to consider our plea and has given fresh permission on my review petition (if you may call that) The shipping agents would now file 'Bill of Entry' and process the papers for release of goods. It is a matter of time before we can lay our hands on the kits.

I hope it will get out of customs soon.
Bill of Entry filed. Approximate customs that is being charged is in the range of 2.62 to 2.72 lakhs. Will be clear tomorrow.
I had finally got hold of the carpenter who also works for a Chennai based speaker maker. He is confused about the measurements provided in the 'box plans. For example, in the box plan of the X-LS front baffle the tweeter hole is written as 3.125" and the countersink is 3.93". The depth of the countersink is mentioned as .18". I tried explaining using the markings on the inch tape but couldn't. Can someone translate these into readable numbers like 3 1/4 inch and measurements like that.
Thereafter, I need to go to his workshop, sit with him and mark the MDF board for cutting to size. He will make one each of these boxes as sample pieces.

This is great news Captain.
Would it make more sense to him if he sees the drivers? There is a conversion chart here http://www.depcopump.com/catalog206/135.pdf with common values, but it doesn't give the exact measurements for the values we need.

Though I figured out the calculations, I don't want to pass on the info to him and take chances. I'm visiting him tomorrow to personally mark the sizes on the board and he would make a sample piece.

The Inch value (including decimal) X 25.4 will give you the mm value. I guess giving the carpenter dimensions in mm would be better. Atleast thats what I did and it came out pretty OK. Of course during the course of the build you would need some filing here & there.
No sire the red tape surrounding the shipping is so thick and such a maze! Hope to do it by tomorrow.
IMHO, the way the dimensions have been written in the plan is fairly confusing. My understanding of the correct way of writing fractions of an inch is to use X-a/b type of notation, and NOT decimal points to indicate fractions.
Maybe Magma and Flash can throw some light on this as they have actually cut the planks (I think).
