Best ever deal for loudspeaker kits.

sir
filling behidg the tweeter does affect the voicing of the speaker - a couple speaker designers have experienced it
Now whether it actually affects the sound by playing a part in the frequencies/waves generated by the tweeter or the woofer - thats another story
"Sir" is the guy with a big paunch. It's certainly not me :D

Filling behind any driver - woofer or tweeter will definitely play a role. IMO, it just will not play a role in the tweeter response. Other response's - Sure it will. But you guys are doing it the right way - voicing by ear. :clapping:

Are you guys voicing it in the home of the end user? If not, just ask the end user to probably hear a different tune in his home :-)

Like one guy said "You can always get a speaker to play relatively flat, but in the end this is going to be all messed up in your room."

If your vent is just below the woofer, stuff from the bottom of the enclosure to the point where the vent just begins. Also damp from the top of the enclosure with loose recron till the mid point of the woofer allowing some scope for the air to move towards the vent.

People - anyone else interested in getting the cabinet built by magma? I can send the no-rez sheet to him, he can complete cabinet build, no rez pasting, painting and send back. I can fit the drivers and crossovers myself.

So if magma agrees, it can work for outstation people as well. I think he will need about 4 of us to say yes :)

the stands i use are the 1 inch prime - they weigh close to 86 kgs

I don't see a problem. Bhagwan/Shanti can use his ' laghiman'.:D

"fountek ribbon tweeter and a scan speak woofer" <-- is this happening any time soon? .

i might intrest you with a fountek ribbon tweeter and a scan speak woofer build

Yes the Illuminators mate well with the new NeoX ribbons (12 and 15 cm can use the 2.0 and 18cm can use the 3.0). Please be aware that ribbon dispersion pattern ensures that the sond signature of most good ribbons is different from domes.

We had a stand that sound foundations make - however, we did not use it.
The Build Quality of that stand was really nice - I was impressed.
We did not use it, just was too lazy to move my current stand, so we moved the TAD out & installed the PSB to start;
Report will be given by Magma.
Later we installed the DIY Speaker.
There were some x-over issues - as Mr. KJ pointed out.
So the Speaker was opened - things were changed - few things - Magma will give the details.
It was closed & we 're-heard' it.
That was done & speakers were changed & positions 'adjusted'
It was a good morning / afternoon that was well spent...

Spent half the day at bhagwans today

i must thank him for his hospitality
He is a good friend and an accomodating host

I must say he is also very gracious when he says
"It was a good morning / afternoon that was well spent..."

i am pretty sure he was left listening to a speaker far down the ladder from his
so i dont know how enjoyable the evening was for him!

i also do thank Mr Jilla for his inputs and help on voicing , tuning and setting up the speaker

In hi words
"we were here to see how far we can take this kit"
Hence we wanted to do this with the best partnering equipment as possible
Bhagwan can list out the equipment and cables if required

Though we had access to some tools like spectrum analyser etc etc
we preffered to voice the speaker by the ear

Mr Jilla consults for Kaizer - and i would trust his and bhagwans judgement
Between them, they have have the best ears for this exercise

I have always known Mr Jillas credentials
today i got to see first hand why he is so respected
He not only could tell us what the speaker was NOT doing perfectly - he knew how to correct it!
i made full use of this

i will refrain from describing how the speaker sounds in general
since i belive music is highly subjective and i am not a reviewer
I am also unable to paint a picture in words since i do not have a very good command over english
However the post made by joshua is pretty accurate

anyway i arrived at 11.00
unloaded a heavy pair of stands and the X-ls " mini coopers

Mr Jilla arrived in an hour
the speaker was setup
we hit play
he walks towards his seat and almost before he even sits down - he notes
this is an on axis speaker and unfortunately its playing out of phase!

open speaker
check phase
found my mistake in soldering and swap the wires to the correct polarity

we toe in accordingly as per his directions
i must say even his toe ins can be measured in millimeters

3 minutes in
He asks me how much stuffing i have in
Mids are smooth however not "fluid"

here we go again
OPEN speaker
removed stuffing- he re stuffs only in certain areas
P.S i have made a note and will weigh the stuffing digitally tomm)
(Mr jilla has actaully asked me to make 3 pillows of certain sizes and replace the recron with that

we close speaker
result - is a very smooth flowing texture
the "flow" is what changed

another 5 minutes in
"Sir - crossover has been crossed too high and the treble is still a bit hot for my taste"
we can hear a lispiness in the female vocals
A resister needs to be added
we cant do this immedately but Mr jilla has asked for a 2ohm resistor that he will solder later
To compensate we use tone control

Lastly
he is not completely satisfied with the port tuning
We add recron 1 inch from the port opening - probably 1/2 a fistful;

there is a smile at last

we heard a few tracks that i knew well
the speaker is currently voiced in the way i like it
i love the result

However i know full well the speaker will never sound the same again!

It was a great experinece

It was a great experience

Magma - perfectly worded.
All you say about Mr. KJ is 100 % correct.
He is a 'gifted' individual.
Has helped me many a times.

FM's should request him for his time & services, they will only benefit from it.

Hi guys
I could complete my speaker build by yday night and listened to it for an hour or so. First impression, really good. Could not take pictures yet. I'll upload it by tomorrow.

Few pictures of my completed speakers

Listened to it for around 10 hours. I find it pretty descent in all aspects. The vocals, instruments, bass everything seems to be a marked improvement from my current speakers.

Total project costed me around Rs 23000+ and worked only on weekends and holidays.

Kit + customs around 16k
MDF around 3k
CNC cutting around 2.5k
Other miscellaneous items such as Tar sheet, paint, screws, Veneer sheets, Recron etc around 2k
I ordered only one NoRez which was insufficient, so for the rest I pasted Tar sheet.

Just "pretty decent" eh? :D

What are your current speakers?

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
