Hi,

What will be the best set of speakers (2 floor standing, woofer) for Pioneer 920K. I think the speakers supported should have 6-8 Ohms. My range is upto 20K

The receiver model is Pioneer VSX-920, it is available in US and UK. Not sure if Pioneer India sells it. Last year, the Pioneer VSX-919AH-K was a good buy. This year, they have removed some features from the 920. In this year's line-up, I would say the Pioneer VSX-1020AH-K, would be an excellent buy.

And please use a transformer to change the voltage to 120volts, else you will damage your receiver, i.e. if you are importing it from US. Receivers sourced from UK and Australia should not have any problems. Although, it is best to check the back of your receiver to see what voltage it requires.

And, to reply to the OP's question, speaker choices depend on what type of music you want to hear. Speakers are usually a personal choice. It is best if you go to a showroom, and listen to them yourself. Although, keep in mind that showrooms, generally have sound-proof rooms, and other things done, to make the sound appear nicer. So, the speakers may not sound the same in your home.

However, Binaya, since you have such a nice receiver, I would advise you to go in for a 5.1 system so that you can truly enjoy surround sound in movies. A 2.1 system will suffice if you listen mainly to music, and don't see movies often.

Hi Vasistha,

Zervinb is right. I got it recently from US. After a lot of research and posts I was zeroed down on this. But, now looking for the best step down transformer for the same. Once, it starts working, I will be able to tell how does it perform ;).

A 5.1 is definitely in mind ;). And your advice has pushed me a bit further. Let me see what I go for in the end then. Anyway what is a wise 5.1 system Value for Money

CHEERS

I have my Pioneer receiver connected to KEF speakers. Got them from PROFX in Mumbai. I'm sure they have an outlet in Bangalore too. They are a bit expensive, but excellent. Their Mumbai showroom has Polk Audio speakers too. You could give them a listen, and see which speakers you find the best.

I am using my PIONEER VSX 920K with BOSE AM5 stereo speaker system that has a passive subwoofer. I DO NOT seemed to be getting good bass output so I have ordered a Jamo 250 powered sub woofer. Will let you know after I have connected and tried out.

Ever since I added Jamo 250 powered subwoofer to my PIONEER 920K Receiver (with BOSE AM5 speaker system) there has been tremendous change in the bass. Sound is much deeper and bass is more heavy which has been a very satisfying experience.
Since I only intend using above speaker combination for listening to Music, I am quite satisfied now with the quality of sound output.

I am also using Pioneer 919 with Monitor Audio BR 5 and experience is very good...getting decent bass and very good detailing in music setup. If you enhance your budget you can have Wharfedale 9.5 floor standing or Monitor audio BX 5 BS speakers.

To improve listening pleasure I added KEF Q100 bookshelf speakers as rear speakers that has further enhanced the quality of sound which now is deeper, better bass and crisp. Listening to Jose Feliciano's 'Listen to the pouring rain' sounds fantastic.

ZERVINB / RAS66,

Could you guys tell me what price you paid for "KEF Q100" and what center you are using with same?

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
