Brands you wouldn't want to buy again

Earlier was a philips fanboy - myself and bro have 29 Inch TV . also have a premium Headphones ( Got Free) and had Philips CD 165

But in last 1 Year a all in one gifted to my parents refused palying DVD's . also my bro's philips HT conqed off after warentee . his TV also gving some issues.....

On other note I have fantastic expereince with HP - average product and mindboggling service! also my expereince with videocon service ( washing m/c) was good . LG I have 42" LCD and Microwave ,fantastic VFM and good dervice backing...

Other good expereinces are when I bough used
1) Yamaha
2) JBstrong
3) Technics - Have 20-25 years old compact speakers still going strong !
4) Vintage Cyrus One !! Still ood!!

philips dvd players are nasty. I have 2, and each one needs lens replacement soon after warranty of just 6 months gets over!
I won't buy a philips dvd player even again prolly. But I think their TVs are nice, but quite expensive compared to some offerings from samsung/ LG.

the worst is videocon terrible products horrible service had very bad experience on Flat crt tv & Frost free ref..will not take even if given for free.

will never buy HYUNDAI - like pradski says -"once bitten.......

will buy anything HONDA or BMW with closed eyes (if and when i can spend the cash)

Maruti Service is outstanding - esp. Mumbai. They chase you for the servicing to be done, etc. Not so with Honda and Toyota.

Excellent Thread . My vote goes for PHILIPS. Presently the worst brand I have tested and owned. Chepo Chinese stuff definitely made by some small time chinese local manufacturer. Bought DVD Players / BoomBoxes and Speakers ......absolutely useless.....blows away within days......never going to buy again......

Itz fun to discuss such experiences... some one hitting head against the table after purchase :) ... many times good brands release bad products specially in lowcost consumer
electronics sector ..
for example the great NOKIA sold
phones like N70 with a major screen blanking bug. some slim mobiles from nokia started to discharge in just 1 day,on the other hand they have the biggest market share in INDIA.
. PHILIPS dvd player model as stated.. i have a mini philips tv at native ..still doing good
Videocon (many bad comments..even i have seen bad CTVs by them )..but i have a videocon walkman very rugged and well made no problems all the years i used it.

My friend bought a SE mobile ,the handset had lott problems after 1 year...i bought a SE phone ,even before ,
no problems now too i get 3 days backup...

I feel concluding all product will be defective
is impractical...

Firstly overall the life of a product from the same brands has gone down due to the innovations coming out each day.

Secondly I feel that companies are no longer investing in giving us a durable product with long shelf life. They want us to upgrade faster and faster to the new range of products being offered.

Thirdly, shifting of production hubs to countries like China also takes a toll on quality of products somewhere..

+ 1 to that - maruti is bulletproof and one can buy with eyes closed -

we have a driver here who specialises in destroying cars - he has finished off even honda and toyota, but till date has not managed to spoil a maruti Wagon-R:)

gone are the days of 1 hmt watch and 2pair of well made shoes . People prefer change and companies make products with short life span, keeps costs low ...in case of many products designing for 10 to 15 years is meaning less.. as fast changing technology makes people to
look for change .. like laptops .... for the people who are buying laptops thinking that it will last 8 -10 years making a mistake ..even if it lasts somehow it will be like historical piece of importance .

i see a lot of guys have had bad experiences with philips

but i have had no issues with thier dvdp 5996k which is a bedroom set up with the pv8 , earlier to this my onkyo dvdp wud refuse to play a lot of copied discs , it wud play but skip chapters unnoticed , but this model from philips wud read anything though the P/Q from onk may have been better

so i guess the philips newer dvdp are good value for 5k with 1080p upscaling , i wud consider this over the onk , what good is a player if it cant read the full contents of the disc however good the P/Q may be?

was a fan of onkyo

but off late i suspect thier products

have lived with thier products for the last 10 years ( i have owned thier avrs 575, 787, 989 over the years and now with 875 , and have had a couple of thier dvdp too )

i suspect thier newer products and planning to ditch the onks
