cable gauge,need your help

hello friends,i recently bought cables for my speakers. They are from indian manufact called Chetan electicals. Bought them from a whole seller. I read Venkat's AVR CONNECTIVITY thread. As he has said the gauge should be in AWG. This seller told me that the G gauge is for regular cables. For speaker cables there is a different measure. My AVR to main speaker post cable (rs 60/m) is 268/40 . Now what does that mean?

i am using diy speakers. To connect the drivers , i am using a cable whose specifications are 168/40. I am happy with the cable performance.there was a a noticable difference when i switched to these cables. But what is this gauge?
