Hi Friends,

To begin with, I would like to thank all the gurus who helped me decide what kind of camera to go for ...... and to an extent which one to go for in THIS THREAD.....

From the day I bought this camera, I have done some extensive reading on photography and its concepts and even have managed to learn a lot. Basically its all about the 3 main rules of SLR shooting ...... Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO. Few other things like metering and all does matter but not as much as the above three. Rest is all your imagination and composition that makes a great snaps.

I am starting this thread to request all of Canon SLR users on this fourm to share their pictures that they have been close to, or pictures that they feel took some effort to compose, along with the EXIF data (which is important).

This would not only help the new noobs in photography like me to learn how the details were taken, but also would be a nice platform to showcase and share your pictures, after all that is what a photographer wants....:D

So here we go. I might be the slowest one to share as I still have far to go in terms of pictures that have some worth to be shared, but I want gurus to participate, and share in full swing and keep the thread flowing .......

Lastly though the title says Canon SLR users, Nikon DSLR users can also share their creations :), this would also give us a fair bit of comparison as well.

Users can use any web hosting site, flickr is preferred. Dont forget the EXIF data.

Will start with my couple of pictures .....

Sharing this image just to show how we can freeze the fast motion changing the shutter speed. The bike here has zipped pass my camera atleast at a speed of 30-40kmph. But it seems as if the picture has been taken with the bike standing absolutely still (thats DSLR... :D) .... Initially I was getting shaky image, then I started increasing the shutter speed to higher levels. That though gave me a perfect freezed shots, it were coming out to be too dark (ofcourse coz of high shutter speed), I then increased the ISO to 800, which eventually gave the me that perfect shot I needed ....:)

Your turn guys .... :)

Just a quick response ....The sharpness of the kit lens is best at somewhat 2 f-stops above the min ...So at 18mm, the min stop is 3.5 ..The sharpest image is available from 5.6 ...The shaepness is maintained at 6.3, 7, 8 and I have seen till 11 ..
At 55mm, the min f-stop is 5.6 . So sharpness is good from 7.1 ...

Another imp factor is lens diffraction ....I hv seen a calculation which shows for the EOS 550d, diffraction starts of from f-8 ..

Try shooting in this range and you will get excellent shots.

@stereo, The problem or limitation I should say, I faced with the kit lens is, that at 18mm 5.6 if you go to close to the subject the lens does not focus. You have to move back and zoom in. But that looses out on a good composition as you might have got with a proper closeup shot..... Anyway thats where macro lens comes in to the picture I guess ... :)

But I am definaterly gonna try your suggestion and see the difference. Thanks again means a lot.

@ALL are there no photographer who wanna share some good pictures ....

PS :: I am off to a trip to uttranchal hills, and would put my 550D to some decent test....:) ... I wish I had that 100mm 2.8 Macro lens ... :D ....
