My Current setup is in my sig. Been more then an year now and thought for upgrading my setup. As i am on tight budget i first want to upgrade Center and Surrounds only, so i decided to go for these:

1. SVS Prime Center, MRP 38K (upgrade from Yamaha NS P150 center)
2. SVS Prime Satellites, MRP 28K ( upgrade from Yamaha NS P150 surrounds)

Big fan of SVS after my first SVS purchase last year (sub PB 1000), so my first choice is SVS build only. But if you guys have any better option then these in the same budget then please suggest. (90% movies, 10% music)

By the way my local dealer suggested Dali Zensor 1 for surrounds instead of SVS Prime Satellites saying SVS are 'loud' and Dali got the clarity. Any suggestions or input on this?

Kindly give your feedback/suggestions/advice please.

Also AVR will be the same i.e. Yamaha RX V377.

Hi Get2Ricky,

Your choice of brand is fine but something looking odd in your new upgrade. Yes... its your AVRs. Both of them dont have enough power to give its potential to the speakers.

You should also consider to upgrade your AVR too. I am not owning any SVS products but still I am pretty sure the current power wont be enough for the upgrade. Better you audition with your AVR whether those SVS models get proper power from AVR or not.

There are FMs who use DALI so you will get some more inputs. And not sure whether we have more number of SVS users (Didnt mean SVS sub users).

I have never heard anything from SVS, so cannot comment on the choice on brand. I am sure you have auditioned the speakers.

What I would suggest is to direct the money for the rear surrounds to upgrade your Front speakers to match with your New Center speaker. A matching Front and Center really pays dividends in the form of sound quality and experience. You can revisit the surrounds once rest of the system is at its prime.

Hmmm I will be going for svs prime towers only but as I said I am right on budget and my Center and rear are below basic level I thought of upgrading these first and later after few months when I have funds I will upgrade towers as they are costly (99k for pair)

Are you really sure Yamaha rx v377 can't drive svs prime speakers? [emoji15]

Well, the best way to do it would be to get to Delhi :) and hear for yourself. Get an appointment and do take your amp with you. Clarify in advance that you would like to use your amp.
SVS: Acoustic Arts
Dali: Sound By Design and others

That's actually a good idea but thing is due to my hectic job i can't really go outta town :/. That is why i want to know the feedback from anyone who have experienced these speakers and all.

system matching is very important. if your new speakers dont match well with the amp or with your current fronts then SQ will suffer. ideally you should go with all speakers of a particular model and dont try to mix and match. this isnt so true for a sub. also keep a long term goal in place for your entire setup and try and work around that

Well for now I am thinking about buying svs Center prime with my Yamaha rx v377 and Yamaha 8390 towers, then will buy svs rear satellites and at the end will go for prime towers. As svs towers will take time, any idea if prime Center will match with my current Avr and towers?

@Get2Ricky
Yamaha 8390 towers are very basic level towers, i had them for a year and sold them recently. I doubt that your Yamaha 8390 would match SVS or any high end speakers as they lack mids and highs.
At this moment you can go for surrounds as you need to match center and towers which cost high for ur upgrade.
There are many other wel known brands that could serve u upgrade.
I currently own Bic America Towers and center and NHT Superzeros as surrounds and they are fantastic for both Movies n Music with Marantz 5011.

Have you auditioned the SVS speakers? I would go with your dealers advice for Dali or look at wharfedale to match with your Yamaha receiver. I would still suggest to look at your fronts first with a matching center before anything else. To me the rest looks fine actually.

Maybe I missed it, why are you looking to upgrade your rear surrounds? What do you find lacking?

Yamaha 8390 will not give you the kind of pleasure out of your experience you are looking for, Yamaha speakers at least the affordable ones are not known for their sound quality. I can tell because I have heard their product line in depth. My suggestion would be to change your speaker package to something like Dali, Polk or KEF, these go well with Yamaha receivers.
The center speaker particularly needs to match the fronts to sound of similar timber, a quality center will for certain overwhelm your fronts, that is not what you want.

With 90% movies, it might be better to get bookshelves for the fronts especially when you are on a budget. Frequencies below the AVR setting (usually 80hz) are sent to the sub so floorstanders are not really needed.
What is your room size?

damn now i am more confused lol, as i am low on budget and want to improve my sound i can only go for 30-40K per 6 months that is why i was thinking about upgrading small items first like surrounds and center and then going for towers and AVR later on if required ..

I have auditioned svs ULTRA tbh and not prime and i loved the natural sound they give. well not actually lacking but just to improve my sound i was looking to upgrade my system and as being tight on budget i was going 1 by 1 with the lowest cost first like center, surrounds then towers and AVR .. lol :/

In that case, start from the front then go to the rear surrounds.

Too costly for now, so I guess z should stay with my current system :(

Good decision. Or you could replace the 8390 with a good pair of bookshelves which you could move to the rear in future. Dali Zensor1, Q Acoustics 2010i, Polk TSX/RTi series, etc. will not put a big dent.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
