If you have corroded wires that you need to solder or any interconnect wires ( speaker wires) that have tarnished with time you can clean it easily.
Here is an easy method .
They say sodium bicarbonate here. This is Baking Soda or Cooking Soda ( NOT Baking Powder ! Baking powder has other chemicals added to it !).

A much simpler way will be to snip off the corroded length and expose fresh wires for using. I am assuming, of course, that you do this 2 or 3 times in your life time and will lose an inch or so of the wire.

There are more modern ways of cleaning wire. Deoxit is an easy way to improve the conductivity as well as maintain great signal quality.
