Collaborative two way bookshelf loudspeaker project

FR plot of M 13 KH. Looks like a good midrange contender. Much better high frequency response compared to the M 13 NH paper cone driver I have used in my MTM project and as good as GR-Research M-130's.

Low frequency extension is less comparatively with both the above models, yet could be sufficient for most genre of music. I am expecting tighter bass compared to the MTM.

An LF cutoff below 50Hz is targeted to allow a smooth transition to the sub woofer.

I measured one of the drivers yesterday and there was usable consistency with manufacturer's specs. Need to break in the drivers before I could make final measurements and update box calculations. Will post the enclosure dimensions once that's done.

The values in bracket are manufacturer's specs

Fs - 62.31 (55.67Hz)
Re - 3.5 (3.44)
Qms -11.66 (15.38)
Qes -0.50 (0.39)
Qts - 0.48 (0.38)

If the Fs is 62.31, how can the speaker produce 50 Hz? :confused:

Would the enclosure produce the frequencies lower than Fs?

I have the AR-XO with my Vifa P13 & D27. It sounds good but has power compression.

What is power compression?

What is power compression?

When the enclosure (the air contained) is tuned to a frequency below Fs, it will help driver in reinforcing those frequencies. However the load on the driver will be more for frequencies below Fs so quality and excursion capabilities of the driver determine the performance at these frequencies. For ported enclosures 20hz below the Fs is not uncommon. For more efficient designs like horns, the drivers can be loaded 2 octaves or more below Fs.

Power compression is decrease in sound level due to heating of the voice coil. It can degrade sound quality and can cause imbalanced sound output between the drivers in a 2 way setup.

Hi,
I volunteered for this project. I had to take care of some work and so couldn't get started on the DIY project earlier. I am ready to get started now. I am in touch with George. He will be showing me some cabinet finishes.

I tried calling Antony a few times but his number was busy. I will update this thread on the progress made in the DIY project.

Antony said yesterday that he will provide information for purchasing the drivers.
I will place the order once I receive the details.

Yesterday, I ordered from varsha electronics

Two nos M13KH, Rs 1500 each (including courier and tax)
Two nos T25 AN 06, Rs 1000 each (including courier and tax)

Should receive them today or tomorrow.

I received the package from varshaelectronics a short while ago. According to the shipper, it was supposed to come on Monday but the courier service took their own sweet time to deliver it.

Cabinet size is finalized and as below.

Width = 9 inches
Height = 12 inches
Depth = 10.5 inches

Material thickness is 19mm
Port internal diameter = 2 inches

The construction plan is already shared with Carnatic, I will post it here after the tweaks :).
