Hi,

After reading lot of reviews about 32" LCDs and I have short listed 2 options for myself. But now I am not able make a choice between these 2.

1) Sony KLV-32EX500 - it will cost me approx. 47K
2) Samsung LA32C650 - it will cost approx. 42K

Both have 100hz motion freq. which is my requirement as i will be watching sports/action movies a lot.
However, one difference I know, Samsung can play all formats via USB but Sony can only play MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 (does it include .avi files), which is a concern (although i am inclined towards sony for reliability and brand name).

Is it worth paying 5K extra for Sony, for better brand name or quality or post sales support or appearance?
Can someone highlight other differences which may help me choosing? :)
Please suggest ...
Thanks in advance ...

Well both are pretty much the same ,one good thing in sony is it comes with one panel in this case a SPVA panel,so what you see in demo piece is what you get.
In the samsung you can get either a AMVA or SPVA or SMVA panel with slight variation in response time/contrast and viewing angles.so the demo piece may have a different panel then the one you bought.

In which showroom you aregetting the above price?? Tell me the city and showroom . I am also planning to buy one for me.

I think 32C650 supports internet@TV and plays all kinds of formats whereas Sony has limitation in that

ex500 has matte screen....c650 has glossy..
glossy screen is more reflective if placed against a light source..

c650 wins on features.. you don't require a media player..It plays all major movie formats (avi,mp4,mkv) on TV's USB port even from a NTFS formatted HDD.. so savings double up.. :)

In my opinion, paying more than 40k for a 32" LCD is not advisable. At that price point you can get a 42" plasma or even 37" LCDs by some brands. Or get a slightly cheaper (which does not necessarily translate to poorer performance) 32" LCD and spend the money saved on a BluRay player. What is the use of getting a really high end TV if all you are going to watch on it is cable/DTH?

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies ...
I think samsung wins over its capability of playing all formats. I am planning to go for it now. Any other pros/cons please do suggestions.
I am getting Sammy LA32C630 at 42K in gurgaon malls.

There are many ways to play all formats from your pc and watch the output on TV ..... For 32 inch tv I would not recomend paying more than 35 k .... Anything above 40 k you can either go for a large TV or a plasma ......

@ Kittu,

As per my understanding quality wise Samsung and Sony both are best in LCDs and I didnt found any 32" LCD with 100hz below 40K ...
Moreover, I checked 37" sammy series 5 LCD is also above 50K (which is out of budget) ...

can u list some options for 32" LCD below 35K and 37"/40" LCD between 40K to 50K ...

I dont want to go for Plasmas as I hv heard LCD technologywise are better than Plasmas ...

Well the EX500 can be bought for around 36k to 38k in grey market.
In showroom only the c530 should be a good buy.

Hi Guys,

i did some more research (in delhi ncr) on LCDs ... here are some findings:

1) As per a ezone salesman: Samsung LCD do have USB option but it can only support a USB upto 2 GB. If that is so than it means i cannot paly a blueray rip movie (of > 2 GB). Also he said it supports all formats except ".avi". Dont know if what he told is true?

2) I saw some Toshiba LCDs and found that black and other colors are much better than compared to Samsung. Overall picture quality of toshiba was as good as sony, but it beats Samsung keeping all the settings SAME (backlight, contrast, etc.). What is your opinion on toshiba LCDs guys?

3) @kittu, @shredder as you suggested to go for a 32" < 40K or a bigger LCD > 40K, i checked few models: samsung 37C530 is being quoted at 50K by a samsung showroom, and 40C550 at around 55K. Most of showrooms dont have 37" models as they say 37" LCDs sale is < 5% of total LCDs sale. Now I have a doubt, since 37" models are sold rarely, could there be a problem in after sale service of samsung?

4) My viewing distance is 8-9 Feets, can i go for a 40" too, or will it be too big for my eyes ...

Whats ur opinion guys, need your valuable advice ...

Doesn't look like the salesman knows what he is talking about.
I have Samsung 32C530 and it can play directly off a 60GB portable hard disk via USB.
Plus it plays pretty much all file formats except flac and avchd.

Thanks Guys for the replies ...

Guys, I am still waiting for responses on my other 3 queries ... need ur suggestions ...

Toshiba do use SPVA panels in some models black level should be comparable to samsung and sony.
Haven't see toshibas tvs from a long time.

37" size is a odd size they don't sell samsung doesn't make 37" panels and sony altogether stopped selling 37" lcds in india.

8 to 9 feet is perfect for 40" size lcds.

I too am looking for 32" tv (i have earlier posted in a thread but still some confusion persists)

- read at many places that for <50" human eyes cant identify the difference between full hd & hd (1080p & 780p). Is it true
- I plan to use my tv as monitor. is it comfortable and easy to work on 32" screen from a distance.
- is full hd worth buying if i use it as monitor

I was in same boat as you, i have almost finalised samsung 32" TV but at the last moment i change my mind and bought 42" panasonic plasma(almost same price though) and upto know i have no regret at all + i balso bought a WD TV to play HD movies so i got the 42"TV for 36K and WD tv for 6.5K and now i can watch full HD movies:eek:hyeah:

Hi,

I have been following your post and replies by fellow members. I have the same issue as you, hence intrigued to know that you selected LA40C530 even as it does not have 100Hz ? How is your experience ? What will you advise me ?
