Hello HFV Gurus,

hmmmm....Confusion again.... This time for PJ .

Ever since my HT gear set up is complete ( Courtesy HFV FM's ) I am on a look out for a decent good projector.

Not able to convince myself on whether to go for a Top End PJ like Epson TW8100 (or Benq W1070 ) or the Basic One like Acer H5370D or Only HD one's like Otpoma HD20. Shall I take the premium one and keep it for next 4/5 years or go for a basic one and upgrade it later is the state of my mind !!

I am going to watch max 2 movies / weekend and some sports on PJ. Rest all on TV. I normally dont go for upgrade for few years.

Epson price have increased and they are further going to be increased after 28th July . The best quote I got for 8100 is 1.31L ( Incl Tax ) and applicable only till this weekend .

Waiting for your valuable suggestions . Thanks in advance.

if you have the budget go for best one...
never settle for less..
applies to every product..especially where part by part upgrade is not possible.

Epson at 1.31L including tax is a great price please grab that without any hesitation and I am sure you will not repent this decision in future.

In chennai the dealers have already increased the price and comes in excess of 1.5L :annoyed:

Try to see the price difference vs performance diff.

If the top end is like 1L+ and the basic ones are 50k, I would stick with the basic one.
Have a look at both PJ's (with the content you'll mostly watch,BD's or rips) and check out how different/better are they.
Just my 2 cents.

If you are going to play of the street rips of BDs, then you really need to take a call. If not, please go for the higher model. Depends on how a serious movie buff you are and also your disposable income.

See if you can get a friend or relative to bring u one from the US .. Got my Epson 8350 from there for $1150 in May this yr ..

I brought HD66 last year and am v happy with this purchase so far. It costed around 35K INR at that time. Lot of folks had recommended it. Though it is my first PJ(so cannot really compare) but it is pretty bright/crisp and I can watch it even with a tube light on.

IMHO, even if you have high end audio setup & BD, fully decorated aquastic treated room with false ceiling and hidden cables.....etc.

After completing all the items of your home theater and start using it....

While your family start watching movies, the primay mind engagement is the PICTURE projected. (Color, Sharpness, Contrast, Brightness...etc). Go for good projector.

Adding my 2 cents (hope all these cents help your budget)....

...If you have the deep pockets and the setup is going to be primarily fixed and not a makeshift arrangement (I do not have a permanent dedicated setup), go for the best bang for your buck.

Totally agree with Swamy_HT that image is going to the primary aspect...beauty of the image (or the heroine in it) will keep all other aspects at bay.

IMO, Projector selection is not at all related to Fixed/Dedicated.
First criteria on Projector selection is BUDGET.

MZB, What is your alloted/stretchable budget for 'Heroine'?

Completely agree with you . But with tech advancement happening so fast these days in PJ industry, I am in doubts whether to have one just for the sake of it and wait for couple of years or have it now and be happy for 4/5 years .

Also there are LED/LCD/DLP projectors . So which is the best still is a difficult question for to me answer . Epson TW8100 surely has a edge over others . And Benq w1070 has broken the barrier of full hd / 3d on pricing . Optoma HD25 also has their fans . Acer too looks a good VFM projector . Mitusubhi also has good HD PJ's within an affordable price.

Checked on US pricing . Epson seems to have better pricing in India than US .

Will watch both. BD's give you PQ for what you actually take PJ for . DVD's / Rips I think are a waste for PJ watching.

I think 1.5 L should be fine enough for the new "Baby". For the Heroine I need to recalculate :)

Gonna be fixed !!! So I would not be staring at the Heroine every now and than :ohyeah:

Top in my list is around 1.31 L and basic I think is around 45k .

Hang on! There are good quality BD rips sized avg 8-12GB that gives you excellent quality (with video bit rate like 25-35mbps and audio 1.5mbps). personally i watch these ones (and not lesser sized like <6GB). Of course nothing like a BD but still these are not definitely a waste (even I had this notion before understanding the technicalities of mkv files). Yes, DVD's are no-no here.

am fully supporting^^^

no way to say waste..in fact perfectly ok..but not exxcelent..8Gb rips..

and original dvds...played in a blu ray player who can upscale..is also perfectly ok..

Just recently, I was also looking at a basic one earlier but ended up buying the epson 6100.
Its absolutely worth it. IMO go for the 8100. BD's are spectacular and so are good rips. Any rip over 5-6gb is good enough. Depends on the quality of rip mostly.

Totally agree with the above, I have the PJ just for 2 days and all the DVDs which showed so nice in my TV are crap to watch in a PJ.
