Hi FMs,

I am planning to purchase a new avr to pair with my taga 606 se 5.0 speaker package (newly brought).

My budget is 40K max. So far I have shortlisted Yamaha RXV 481 and Pioneer VSX 831. The HT will be 90% used for watching movies over blu ray.

RXV 481 is a 5.1 avr where as VSX 831 is a 5.2 avr. At the moment not interested in atmos or dts x and satisfied with DTS HD MA or Dolby True HD which can be aceived by both these AVRs.

Can experts over here please suggest me which AVR should i purchase between 481 and 831 that can pair as well as power the speakers that I have?

Thanks a lot for the inputs Immu. Is there any considerable amount of difference in the power output among the two receivers?

I think both are rated @ 80W for 8ohms not much of difference, if your budget is 40k and if you are not much worried about warranty try if there is any grey market near by you can get pioneer VSX-1131 but wait till Jan 2017 because of demonetisation the price have gone up now, you can see these adds in olx etc imported from Singapore, some times they give seller warranty.

Thanks Immu. Does VSX-1131 packs better and more power to drive the speakers in respect to its sibling VSX-831?

I'd prefer Yamaha model over pioneer, though you won't go horribly wrong by choosing either of the two.
Lot depends on ;
How does the Taga 606 sound? They're 6ohm I believe, someone who owns the combo would be better to comment? What's the difference between Taga 606 v3 and SE? What's the source and cost of purchase?

Thanks drkrack for your inputs.

How does the Taga 606 sound?

I am yet to use it. Still unboxed.

What's the difference between Taga 606 v3 and SE?
Site mentions the difference as : "The magnet has grown from 80mm to 90mm as well as an extra one (80mm) has been added. "

What's the source and cost of purchase?
I brought it from MZ Audio Distribution. Price was around 26K

Thanks Friend :)
I am also now thinking of buying Yamaha 481.

Have you auditioned both with same set of speakers?
I do not see any reason not to consider Pioneer 831, I own Pioneer 830K and liked the sound over other similarly priced models from different brands.

I think you should give it a try, you may find its signature thrilling and punchy along with good build quality :)

PE: Nothing against Yamaha.

Same here.Pioneer will be better choice.People here havent liked 3050 so wht would 481 be like.

I have audition Tags Speakers last month with Marantz amplifier. They sounded me Bright so pair them with warm sounding amp. You will get better results. Instead of Pioneer or Yamaha, go for Pre Own Marantz or Denon. You will get very good pre-own AVR in that budget. Between Pioneer and Yamaha , Pioneer sounds bolder where as Yamaha sounds natural.

Please confirm price and source of purchase.

I am also confused between yamaha n pioneer ( cheaper)

Reviews on yamaha 481 please. How's it in musical and movie departments etc.

Hi Friend,
I have added a review of RXV 481 in the following post: http://www.hifivision.com/home-theater/65727-review-rx-v-481-taga-606-se.html#post724182

If you are satisfied with a 5.1 AVR, look no further. RXV 481 does well with both music and movies. Its perfect blend of sound. Songs if you play flac or WAV files are a delight to hear. One thing that I felt that the AVR is having good power to drive my speakers. Never had the requirement to crank up the volume above 70%. If you have any specific doubt, please let me know.
