DAC - To buy or to not buy(Confused)

Boy, the thread has already reached 18 pages and you still don't seem to get it? Hope you are really SERIOUS!!!

Throughout the thread various forum members have patiently tried to answer/clarify all your queries so am puzzled that you still seem to be confused?

Please don't get me wrong, take all the advice in the world you can get, but TRUST only your ears.

Good luck....

I am serious sir ji, that is why I created this thread but I would like to hear/listen to my setup with DAC to see how much improvements will I see and then will decide to buy DAC. Mods can close this thread coz it has been decided a week before that this time I will audition DAC and Sir ji the main problem with me is I live in Gwalior where there are no such shops and to have a demo I need to go to delhi/Mumbai. I hope u understand :)

True very very true but :ohyeah: but I am really lucky that im the part of this forum:) all the members are really very helpful. I wish to meet each one of u personally, saying it from my heart:)

Actually meeting each of us will cost you 20 times more than 10 dacs.... so buy the dac and post your review for us whether to "Buy or not buy" if buy which one to and if not which one to not buy

Hi Rana,
As the computer being your main source you would need even better DAC if you going for hi-end speakers and amp. May be look for a hi-end DAC with a pre-amp and remote control. I can suggest you Audiolab MDAC which is a DAC with a preamp (digital inputs only DAC is same as Audiolab 8200CD/8200CDQ) which will be released in a month or two.

I connect only laptop to the DAC though connecting the CD-P increases the performance to some extent. When I connect multiple sources like the CD-P and laptop to DAC I end up using only one analog input out of 7 inputs on the integrated amp and I had to walk to the DAC always to switch between the sources.
Its a pain to miss the remote functionality connecting all the digital sources to DAC and making 6 out of 7 analog inputs redundant on the amp.

Having only digital sources now I feel I paid more unnecessarily for the redundant 6 analog inputs on the integrated amp and had to compromise on a DAC which don't have remote facility. Also I ended up having two budget level DAC's one in the CD-P and external DAC.

On my next upgrade my requirement is I don't want to end up having two budget DAC's and will try to avoid going for an integrated amp which is emphasized on analog inputs.

I'm looking at a CD-P with a DAC and a Pre-amp like the Audiolab 8200CDQ or a DAC with a pre-amp like the Audiolab 8200DQ. In the later case I can buy discontinued line CD-P's cheap at richer sounds and use it as a transport. Also I can go for a power amp which will be of a better quality and more powerful than an integrated amp at the same price.
Also I will save few power chords and interconnects and have the luxury of a remote

Hi All,
I have read all 20 pages at one go,But still i guess only one member has orderd the DAC , our Jolly boy is still behind .

Please clarify my doubts here.

1. Is a DAC output stereo or Multichannel .

2. My current setup is
PC souncard optical out > Amp ( NAT T752 ) optical in .

Will putting a DAC in between make any improvement.

3. If there is an improvement then which DAC should i buy.
My friend is coming from US and he can bring it.
budget is >7000.

Please reply fast guys .

Hi All,

It's stereo as the music source will always be stereo.

2. My current setup is

Will improve with a decent DAC.

3. If there is an improvement then which DAC should i buy.

I have no idea of the US market. In UK you get musical fidelity v-dac for about Rs 11500. You should increase the budget slightly.

Others can advise on more options.

@Ben10
May be you should stay away from buying a DAC unless you have a proper stereo amplifier and good speakers.
Buying a good DAC or a CD Player for connecting it to an AV receiver may not make sense as you will not be able to enjoy to its full potential with an AV receiver.
