DAC - To buy or to not buy(Confused)

so these are my chosen DAC's:

1. Arcam rDAC
2. Cambridge Audio DacMagic

Suggest to add Musical Fidelity M1 DAC as well. Many rave user reviews on the net. One dealer even preferred it over a $2000 Marantz CDP.

However, if you take the time to "google" you will now find a big choice in this price range.

I was in a similar situation and had almost cut-a-deal for PS Audio Digital Link III, but timely guidance from forum members led me to the Emotiva XDA-1 (pls check my review).

Thank you , but I can see links for 199 and 229 where is 119?

199 for Silver and 229 for Black are the best prices for the DacMagic. No, its not available for 119.
Even at these prices the website says 'Stocks limited/ not available at all stores. Some may be ex-display or ex-repair'

could u plz tell me ur source like CD-Player, Media player

If CD-Player so which one? if Media player so which one?

Oops, sorry!

Sony Vaio VGN NS240 E/W - USB out
iTunes playing ".wav audio files at 1536 kbps/48.000 khz

If it helps, previously I was using the same set up with

Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 | Creative Labs Online Store

connected using Monster RCA interconnects to Arcam Solo Music.

For CDs I use the in-built CDP of the Solo but since it does not have a digital out, cannot connect it to the XDA-1 to compare/test.

With the Creative X-Fi the sound was GOOD - but it was typical STEREO.
However, with the XDA-1 it is now LIVE ORCHESTRA (as already stated in the other thread).

In Short, it was Only GOOD earlier but now it is EXCELLENT.
And, the SOUND STAGE now is simply mind blowing.

I am sure, you too will fall in love with the "transparent" sound of an external DAC. Read your thread just out of curiosity, as I too was in a similar state, doubtful, reluctant etc. but now I am absolutely satisfied and can confidently say it was a very wise decision to go in for the external DAC. And, all this would not have been possible without the timely and wise guidance of the forum members.

link please ? I searched but it was not there for 119

I am not sure whether richersound guys will deliver product outside UK. you need to check it and confirm. you can also check site audioaffair.co.uk. These guys sell music fidelity products also can deliver to India. Vdac is available at around 160 pound including delivery.

I have just now ordered for an hrt streamer II async usb dac for use with laptop. - $149 the cost, and shipping via usps + insurance from hrt makes it $195. I hope there is no custom duty on this.

Yes, I have personally felt incredible improvement. However, this may not necessarily be the same for you, as many others have already pointed out.

I have experienced on many occasions, that friends would think of my sound as junk when I fall in love with it. But still, I am convinced you WILL hear a difference by adding an external DAC.

I personally feel NAD (owns C352) has a mellow sound with in-your-face vocals and understand the V-DAC also has a warmer sound. So, if you are not exactly after absolute "highs" then you would in for a treat with the combination.

I am curious to know... is it permissible to play loud music in Saudi arabia. is it not against their culture and religion?

You are absolutely right, it's PROHIBITED to play loud music here. I MUST be careful with my volume ALL THE TIME. What to do, I am born with music is in my blood. I know it's risky but it's something I will NEVER be able to stop.

I shut off my system as soon as I hear prayer call and take maximum care to ensure I do not disturb anyone. Occasionally, I do get a KNOCK on my door and immediately I know my music has gotten loud and disturbs my neighbours.

Well, I LOVE music and they DON'T and yet we must all learn to live in peace???

I absolutely wish that this applied to the whole world!

This thread has made me look at Dr.DAC. Because this is an I/O product, not just a DAC, it could be exactly what I am looking for. However, I'm insisting on staying with Linux, ang Google, so far as I have seen just now, shows people who certainly make this box play with Linux, but I haven't seen any report of making it record.

better you get your room full sound proof. one part of your mind might always be occupied with this thought whether loud sound is going out and disturbing others. this thought is certainly restricting your full enjoyment of music. whenever I think my neighbor is getting disturbed. i cant enjoy music. :) all the ver best :)

This bold statement is what I m afraid of, that is the only reason have not bought DAC till now and I also know that I will see the difference by adding an external DAC but by how much, that is why I have stopped myself from buying a DAC coz 24k is a lot more for me, atleast for me:sad: and yes I am not after absolute and extra highs. I like warm sound.

Boy, the thread has already reached 18 pages and you still don't seem to get it? Hope you are really SERIOUS!!!

Throughout the thread various forum members have patiently tried to answer/clarify all your queries so am puzzled that you still seem to be confused?

Please don't get me wrong, take all the advice in the world you can get, but TRUST only your ears.

Good luck....
