Denon 1910+Def.technology BP7006

Hi guys....

after 1 month R&D (visited majority of shops and auditioned many towers in mumbai ), i finalised on Denon 1910 and def.technologys BP7006 Bipolar Towers (250 watts power + subwoofer) and will upgrade center + rears later....

Yesterday i auditioned Def.tech BP7006 in mumbai ..... very impressive and powerful sound... no need to buy separate woofer

Avoid denon at all costs .. the sound has no authority and is easily beaten by other amps. I have come to this painful conclusion after owning a denon. You can check out amps like arcam nad etc ..

This is a very generalized statement and is incorrect. The current thread is talking about the Denon 1910 at around 40 odd thousand. Arcam does not make AVRs at that price. Their minimum price is around 2.5 lakhs. NAD AVRs are musical, and NAD has been losing market share because they have not been able to close their MDC upgrade modules. Again to get some 90 odd watts from each channel, you have to look at the 775 that will cost close to three times the price of the Denon.

got a topping amp (priced at less than 1/10th) of a denon clearly outperforms it in the sound dept . I guess the OP is better off spending a bit more and getting a lifelong value ? Wht are ur views ..

You are comparing a 13 watts per channel stereo DIY amp with an AVR? And coming to the conclusion that all Denon are useless?

I would really encourage you to decode a 5.1 signal externally, feed the front left and right through the Tripath amp to a passive speakers and see how it sounds.

The functionality and requirements of the two are completely different, and I would say any comparison is meaningless.

class d digital amps have been there for ages
what do you think is providing amplification in many all in one tape decks and all in one HT's rolling of by the thousands

please dont compare the "presence" of diy class d amp with a denon AVR for HT applications.
they generally would be fine only for near field monitor speakers at a certain volume level only

the example was not a direct comparison .. but a comparison of the sound quality . If such a small amp can be better than denon in the sound dept then there surely will be better options which are available ?

comeon man .. that was a figure of speech .. The point im trying to make is if such a small amp gives better sound than an AVR .. isnt it better to search for some other options? I see the OP going thru the same route that I have gone .. and just asking him to scan a bit more.

Correct me if I am wrong. It seems that you were using a Denon AVR for music earlier, hence your thoughts and your "discovery" moment. It all depends on what you want, your usage ratio and whether you want both to be good. If it is mostly movies with say 10 to 20% music, then go an AVR. Anything around 60% movies 40% music or more, you need both, an AVR for movies and a pre/power combo or an integrated for music.

Both Denon and the Topping have good reviews and happy owners. A Blanket statement on either being good\bad can often be misleading.

i undeerstand you did not mean your earlier statement literally and was just a comparo

however your statement that ive highlighted is also subjective
At least i dont entirely submit to it
as ive said before most class D amps are nearfield amps which work well only with certain speakers at certain volume levels that too in a smallish room
A good AVR would outperfrom them in all other scenarios

As for the Ops purhase..excelent choices sir. I love the Def Techs. Well built and engineered. They are true allrounders and I will say the same about your Denn AVRs too. If you plan on expanding it into a HT, you've made a good choice. For serious stereo listening I would look into some better dedicated 2 channel amplification. I own a def tech Prosub100, been 5 years now and still going strong and among the best HT subs available in India for 25kINR.

but sir we are talking about the topping t20 and its class here applied for HT or ALL bookshelves at any volume levels
i will be terribly surprised if you consider that an in correct statement in the context we are discussing

Well I have been a deftech user for long and actually started with the 7006 albeit for stereo through a denon integrated.I have also compared the combo with my friend's denon AVR 3805.My impression is:
Deftech bipolars match very well with Denon AVRs.The slight catch is the deftechs reveal the quality of electronics. Though i haven't come across the impedance curves of the deftechs, I suspect there is a reasonable dip somewhere and they perform better with higher current. A reasonable example is that they sound better on my denon 80 watt high current integrated than the higher rated avr3805.
But no hassles, as far as the value chain goes, the 1910 and 7006 both sit comfortably on the bottom of their respective lines and are sure to match well if your room matches them(speaker placement is the key).However the next avr 2910 or so might give you better sound.
