I can understand the pain of those ppl who want to use the same speakers for stereo listening as well as the HT 5.1 setup. Finding a good speaker switch is near to none.
After exploring the Speaker switches on ebay and other websites, found only handful of them which were not upto the mark [No Gold plating, No Banana jack, quality of internal wiring used etc etc]. So ventured into the DIY route and hit to our good old SP Road, Bangalore. Items required in making this high quality speaker switch are listed below
1. 1-0-1 Rocker 10A switch [Amar Radio Corp SP Rd] (Rs 50 per piece 2 Nos) = 100 Rs
2. 24 lugs & Sleeves [Amar Radio Corp SP Rd] (Rs 60 for 24 pieces) = 60 Rs
3. Gold plated MX Banana sockets [MX components Store SP Rd] (Rs 30 per piece 12 Nos) = 360 Rs
4. QED cable for interconnects [72 strands] , I had some spare with me.
5. Finally the PVC Casing, this can be done at Chickpet, Bangalore [PVC cutting shop] (Size 5in X 4 in X 2.75in) = 200 Rs

So the overall amount for this beautiful DIY Speaker switch comes to 720 Rs. Which is way better than the speaker switches available online.
I have put few pictures at different sections of assembly. Pictures speak for themselves. I am really happy on the outcome and there is no reduction in the SQ whatsoever.

Nice one,I tried much cheaper solution (around Rs.100 only).I need to add good switching button for better conduction.-

Tru Spiro...again it all depends on one's need. I wanted pure Gold plated contacts for better conductivity and also high degree of switch contact. Other point that was taken care was insulation, dont want to end up shorting the AV receiver & Stereo amps output due to shorting. And offcourse aesthetically looking good switch box :)

wondering if you can make one for me :)

Anm, appreciate your request, with a toddler around it took me almost 3 weeks to get it done :eek:hyeah:, with drilling and filling...so it would be difficult. I have given the steps to do it. You can try it :). It pretty easy except for the drilling and filling.

Vin eme,

This is good stuff. If you had waited for some time before responding to Anm, you would have got many more requests ;-)

good stuff vin eme,

hey do you know if i can use something like this to select amp source. Would like to use the same speakers with an amp for stereo listening and avr at other times for movies. Can help me clear a speaker pair and make some space :)

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
