Congrats Bibin. Really nice work on the cabinets. Was talking to Bijin about it last day and he had a lot of good things to say about it. Should call you guys and come over sometime for a listen.

I've had a relative's Paradigm Studio S60 for some time and though there were good for movies even I didn't like them for music. Blotted base mostly and distorted mid range or atleast on the tracks I played.

I ordered an SEOS kit last day and awaiting delivery. If you guys still have this speaker after I've assembled mine we should try do a comparison. Would be fun.

Hi George please post the link to the SEAS kit that you ordered and how much did it cost and is it possible to ship it to India.

Thanks

hello Capt. Rajesh,

these drivers are available for about 100 USD a piece for madisound. I think you can also get them from hongkong / china/ Singapore.

I had some discussion with Singapore Dealer, if you want i can introduce you to him.

Hi AmitKumar,
Can you please share the contact details of the dealer?

This is really a very remarkable speaker build.
I am a great believer that the DIY builds can easily outperform the branded speakers sold for a premium.

Soundnovice and myself have built the same.
Pros - Clarity, soundstage. The tone of the drivers is very natural and true. I have heard some beethoven and stuff on this and encores, the alps were far superior in reproduction.
I even love listening to lounge music and some electronic. The clarity just shoots other speakers down.
Cons - There's a couple of cons. one which soundnovice mentioned. The quality of the recording. if tht is not so good, the reproduction is worse. secondly, for faster music, new age rock and stuff, the speakers are only good at a lower listening level.

@bibin - play bjork - hunter on them. and try pushing the volume as much as possible. you'll be shaken ;)

Also another thing. Placement make massive amount of difference. see if u can place it flat against a wall and listen to them. that is when i am really happy with the bass

Q:why bad recording sounds very bad on alpairs!?
A:as per my understanding, alpairs have very low mass cone, which are very sensitive to not just music signals but also noise in them! i think this is the important factor behind the awesome tonal quality that alpairs are capable of. reproduction is as close as possible to the original recording.

i can always count on you to explain my layman observation very technically :)

IMHO, this is a sign of a "transparent" HiFi component. Garbage-In-Garbage-Out.
If bad quality recordings start sounding good then there is some cover-up that the equipment is doing which will inevitable cover up stuff that needs to reach our ears :D

So, I dont think this is fault of the drivers :) It simply means the source material is not up to the standard.

Nice to know they are resolving! Good!

It's all signal. The speakers don't know which part you do and don't want to hear.

But surely, the better the speakers the more of that signal we get to hear, as Rohitmusic says

Try something with high lossy compression, like internet radio: the better the speakers the worse it sounds and the sooner the fatigue sets in. Crazy thought: maybe this should be part of speaker auditioning!!! :ohyeah:

Yes Dear,
It may sound odd but that is one trick I always use to audition. :)
I try to take some low bit rate mp3s (<320 kbps) and see how it sounds. If it is sounding too nice and hiding the artifacts of compression then I come to know the equipment is not transparent enough and it is actually 'too good to be "true"' (to the source).
