I had a need for some different lengths of interconnects for my home theater, and I didnt have any spare sets lying around of the right length.
So, that prompted me to dig out the box of spare parts, and make a few.
The question is: which cable would be best bang for the buck? Which one is best in terms of cost/performance ratio?
It's not really about cables being better or being good... its how they sound different to other cables, on any given system, and how we can use them in the mix for tuning our systems
most of us dabble in making DIY interconnects from time to time... It's a fiddly job that takes time.
A friend (also forum member) recommended Mogami 2803 cables (group buy). This thread is to share pics of my work.
For RCA jacks, I used some Eichmann bullets and Amphenol connectors I had lying around. CA cheap stuff, I bought a long time ago.
Basically, you get some nylon expandable braided/woven sleeves around 1/2 inch or so in diameter and some heat shrink tubes
of course some tools and a soldering iron.
What these cables do for me; they sound great on my system and added liveliness to the sound, very detailed Improvement over the store bought decent looking connects I was using.
I would need to know the capacitance of each interconnects. In my opinion having a low capacitance on interconnects is the most important part of the design.
Time just flies when making cables. I am over tired and under whelmed!
I'd forgotten how fiddly the job is, and how slow I am at making them... above all 2803 is a nightmare to handle
BTW, also made a pair of speaker cables with Gale wire and some heavy duty banana plugs.
